Re: Phaez Amps [merged]

Just sent my deposit on a Jericho today. Going to try and find time to make a cab while it's being built. Looking forward to having a Phaez.

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]

Looking at the Phaez website and for a second it looked like the Sibly was in an aged wood cab....

I thought that looked kinda cool.

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]

now I'd put that silver on black on my next phaez in a heartbeat! looks amazing!

On another note, I just played a daisycutter for the first time today! I'm building a full 112 mini stack rig for a customer and he had randy send his daisycutter 8 directly to me! Sounded sick!

Once it's all finished, I'll shoot a nice demo of the rig! I'll just say that this 112 is something special!!!

That looks great! Really classy.

I can't picture there being room for screw holes on the edges, how will that work?

@ John, I'll be getting some of those logos in the future, how long will they be available for?

@ RobF, looks killer, you're gonna be a happy man.

@ Alex, can't wait to hear that demo man. The Daisycutters are a kick ass amp!

My comment was directed at V2's post regarding the Phaez badges. That's what i get for trying not to quote his pics...

@RobertF, your amp looks great! I'm guessing you ordered yours with the cab from Phaez? It looks great too!

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]

thanks guys! I was happily surprised when Randy said I could get a cab through him, which saved me from having to run about trying to source one somplace else. The protoype logos look pretty cool. When they get finalized, I may have to pick one up. Looks like Randy is doing some running changes on the SIBLY's, as mine is a bit different from the original and even from the latest version that is posted on his website. Oh well, its all good.

Hey Rob, you can be pretty confident if it's new and a bit different, it's probably better.

I'm betting you're right -- I was glad to see that mine wound up with a presence control like the superlead circuit that its based on. I've been waiting since mid-February and judging by the comments about these amps, it'll be worth the wait!

The cab is made with a 3/16 lip around the front so the amp and front panel is mounted from the inside up against the 3/16 lip ...the front panel can be removed by removing the 4 pinch screws on the inside ...and if you wish to replace with plexi or mesh it can be easily done ....I don't get room for screw holds on edge you referred to .... I designed the cab in such a way it can be modified ...some time I mount the front panel from the outside , I put 3/4 x 1" blocks on the inside to screw the front panel from the inside ......JIM

Working on the mounting holes next. These metal panels have double-sided tape on the back, which would probably suffice for tolex or wood, but definitely not grill cloth. I'm going to try drilling two mounting holes:

1. just exterior to the rectangular outline (surrounding the text)
2. on the rectangular outline
3. just interior to the rectangular outline. To do this, I'll have to move things around a little so that there is a bit more room between the outline and the 'P'.

I can always make more after the initial batch, although it's always costlier to make just one or two (because the etching shop charges the same set up fee for one or twenty badges).

Hey Jim. MagPel was directing his 'screw hole' question to me; re: how would someone fix the proto amp badge I made to an amp or speaker cab?

Answer: NOS tape!

I think option no 1 will look best. Maby the blank part left and right of the outline should be wider to make room for the holes? But it understand that you cant change things around forever...

Anyway, excelent work. All three options look great.

I think what really sets this design off is the combination of NOS tape and one NOS philps-head screw!

Yes, that's an option worth considering, especially if the etching shop won't charge me more for a slightly larger badge.

In fact - I am a bit nervous drilling through some nice grill cloth, on the chance that things might start unraveling.

Don't drill through grill cloth it will unravel the threads ,catch on the drill and destroy the cloth I speak from experience....JIM

Re: Phaez Amps [merged]

So I pulled my old 412 cab out of storage the other day and plugged the SIBLY into it and started to really mess around with the controls. Okay this amp should come with just one direction. Set the gain on 1, and start rolling the master volume up, then and only then, start playing with the gain. Those two controls almost act like the volume controls on a two sided amp and you have them daisy chained. But starting with the master up and gain low really changes the dynamics of the amp, in a good way. The tone controls become way more usable. With the gain up, say at 9 o'clock, using humbuckers I had to roll the bass and mids almost all the way off. With the gain down and master up I had to add bass and mids. This is amp is just really interesting with how the controls work with each other. The tone change from the boost also becomes much more apparent. You can really hear the amp change character as you roll the boost up. So after fiddling with all this I then started rolling the gain up to see what would happen and oh man does this thing turn into a raging monster.
