re: Phaez Amps [merged]

Phaez Corona arrived today. Sounds like my old blackface Deluxe Reverb only better. I'm thinking that I might have to have him build a third amp for me. I'm selling my old 50watt Marshall and my Tweed Bassman clone(keeping my tweed Deluxe clone though). The Phaez amps are so good, I really don't need anything else. I'm looking at a Trainwreck Rocket-style only with an 18watt/2 EL84 power section. Not only do I not need 50 and 100 watt amps anymore, but these little Phaez amps are so loud it's ridiculous. I'll post a sample of the Corona when I get a chance.

Is it wrong that two weeks after getting my first I'm seriously thinking of ordering a second?

I can see how you could feel that way, but for me it has worked the opposite. I feel like I've found my last amp with my SIBLY. Your way is better for business though!

If I did decide I wanted another amp, it would be a Phaez

Haha yupp, if I didn't get this idea of a multi amp rig in my head then I wouldn't get another, but I really think with a dumble type amp (dragonfly possibly ) it will be more versatile.

This was sitting on my porch when I got home today. It is a fantastic looking and sounding amp. I am very happy and am going to go play some more now!

I'm comparing the Dragonfly to the Ceriatone HRM for a Dumble type tone, but I must say honestly I'm not a fan of the majority of the clips on YT. I really want to see some more bluesy clips of it, with the gain a little lower.

Buying the amp wouldn't be anytime soon anyhow, so its not a big issue.

Randy's version is quite different than the Ceriatone. Randy's comes with the switches set at a pre determined value. He found most guys set them the same, so he eliminated them, and made it a very minimalistic approach to the "D" style amp. I bet there are some other differences as well. But you are comparing two amps that are really different. They do both have the dumble voice though.

Just did another phaez demo today

I wanted to do a demo that focuses more on clean and breakup tones. In my other demos I tended to play with a lot more gain. This shows off it's sensitive side! lol

Yea, thats what I figured based on some review's I've read. Its too bad though, because I really wanted to buy a Phaez, I mean, the service is great, the amps are excellent, the pricing is amazing, but since I already have two essentially simple and minimalist amps, I want to go with something more complicated..

Maybe I'll contact Randy with a tweed deluxe type custom build, if he would.

I have played Rosco's and it definitely gets the Dumble vibe. Then there is the "mod" switch, which takes into a more Marshall kind of thing. It's a highly organic sounding "D" style tone

I have also played Hipofutura's Ceriatone HRM. It's a very nice amp. It's very thick on the Dumble voice, with a definite 3D thing going on. It's a nice sounding amp for sure.

So if you like the more "airy" 3D sound, and like a thicker tone, you may like the Ceriatone.

If you like a more natural sound that has more midrange, and a little more forward, and would probably do better in a live setting "IMO" Then you may like Randy's version.

Not sure why, but I've gotten the impression that those are among Randy's favorites. There's certainly something 'wreck like about all of his amps.

That's what I'm thinkin' too. Yes, I'm already thinking about the next. I got issues. Events could change that would swing me towards a DC10, and I've still got the idea that I need a SIBLY, just on the incredibly off chance that I ever play lead guitar in a rock band, which aint gonna happen, but still... just seems like too perfect of an amp to not have. Like I say, I have problems. I want an amp that's perfect for something I'm not gonna do.

Hah, you mean the parts with a lot more gain?

But yeah, the bit at the end, without the camera... good stuff.

Yup. I go to Randy for simplicity. Yes, I always make him muck them up a bit, but he does his best to keep me from getting out of hand. If you want the knobs, go Ceriatone all the way. I've heard amazing things about their Dumbles.

He's done it. A couple times, I think. Not clones, at all, but similar voiced things. The Rising Sun was the first, which is a pretty cool name for an amp.

re: Phaez Amps [merged]

Just been wailing on the Daisycutter for an hour with my new cab, an oversized vertical 2x12...

Sounds huge, big bottom end and punchy mids, it's a big improvement over playing through the Studio 15 cab!
It's got a convertible back for the best of both worlds
The guy's done a really good job building it, really solid with beefy reinforcements inside the cab.

The Scumbacks work just like I expected, thanks for the tips guys

Get the head cab next week, Plexi style and same width as the speaker cab.

Edit: Can't get the pics to display properly, I rotated them in Photobucket, yet they display sideway. Any ideas?

That does look very nice! So, those are the H75/M75 Scumbacks? They are the new version too? I would really like to hear the new ones, haven't heard any of them yet, and I haven't heard how they compare to the Weber built ones.
If I know Jim, they likely sound fantastic. I love mine.

Yup, the H75 and M75, the new ones. They sound bloody marvelous Can't compare them to the Weber built ones though as I've never heard one. I do have a spare H75 ready to go into a combo though.
The Daisycutter really shines with these speakers, it can get really nasty quite quickly when you dig in

Re: Phaez Daisycutter DC10 kit build

My DC10 is quiet, but I started wondering whether I'd hear noise from AC heater wiring when the amp is turned on but no guitar or cord is plugged into the amp. When I turn my amp gain and MV up to noon, I hear very little hiss out of the speaker. Theoretically, if I had a heater problem, would I hear more hiss or hum out of the speaker in this setup (no input)?
