re: Phaez Amps [merged]

Because I don't like analog/tube stuff much anymore.. Starting to move over to digital completely.

Phaez amps are pretty cool amps though, I must admit, Maybe someday in the future when I want an amp to just play around with.

I'm talking to Randy about doing a 2xEL84 version of the Marshall 1987x circuit. I love the cranked Superlead sound, but have no place to crank one. I'm looking forward to talking to Randy further on this one.

It will be right on the money as far as tone and feel. The guy knows his stuff. He did me a 2 X EL84 18 watt JTM45 thing and it is awesome. I still cant believe how right on the tone is, even with EL84s Not to mention if an ant were crawling on the strings I could hear it

re: Phaez Amps [merged]

After talking with Randy a bit more we switched my order from a lightning cutter to one with a blackface an daisy cutter side. Wonder what kind of name could it get? A Deluxe-Cutter? Either way with the heavy gain on the daisy side, and the cleans on the blackface I can get a more wide spectrum.

He also offered to add more gain onto the blackface circuit for a SRV tone, but then I think it would ruin the cleans. Besides with it being powered by EL84 we figured it'll break-up sooner.

Now I have to figure out what I am going to do about funds as my employer or ex-employer has flipped again and has put me on temporary lay off pending on the workload. So no money coming for the moment...

Well I spoke to Randy recently about the construction, and dropped the name BlackDaisy to him. Really liked the name and is going to put in a switch so I can go between the sides. One being labeled Black and Daisy, and he's going to have the front panel look simliar to a fender deluxe. Can't wait for it. .

So thanks Kingedb for your awesome name suggestion.

re: Phaez Amps [merged]

I have been exchanging e-mails with Randy about a new 2-channel amp. Like DrakeZero, one channel will be Blackface. After some discussion about my interests, tastes, etc. Randy agreed that the Daisycutter might be more high-gain that I'm after, so the second channel will likely end up being JTM45 or Plexi. He did mention that he could do a "dialed-back" Daisycutter also, which would reduce the gain but still be a bit more gainy than the two Marshall options mentioned. So that's a possibility also. I like the warmth of the JTM45, but a Plexi sounds great too and might be a better choice to pair with the Blackface for a wider range of tonal options.

DrakeZero, he mentioned an extra gain stage option in front of the Blackface circuit to me also, but it sounded like it would have its own trim control and would be completely transparent if the trim were all the way down. I haven't decided if I'll do this or not.

A few more decisions to be made, but we're getting closer to making it happen!

re: Phaez Amps [merged]

i think we've got the idea for mine worked out pretty well. ~15 watts, 6v6, volume, tone (in center it's bypassed, to the left cuts treble and to the right it brightens up), master that is bypassed when cranked, a bass cut switch, and an overall tweed feel but with tighter response. I can't wait still deciding between making it a 1x12 combo or a head with2x10 cab. Leaning more towards a 1x12... I play slide most of the time and i want raw and gritty. Planning on getting a tweed sourmash cab with crimson grill cloth if I can and a weber speaker

You adjust the truss rod before putting heavy gauge strings, You also need to widen the spaces withing the nut.

That's BS again. You tighten the truss rod after stringing the guitar.

I do it before to straighten it up, Then I slowly adjust with strings on, If I did it completely with the strings on I risk cracking the neck because of the thick strings And I cussed because I got pushed to it .
