Phaez Trigger Pull!

Ok, so you Phaezers have gotten me all hot and bothered about these amps! I've really got no choice here! I've put in an order for an 18w Daisycutter (chassis only) with tonestack, which I'm told is now going to be a standard build.

So I guess it's the waiting game for me now!

I've never seen one of these, but from the clips I've seen on YouTube, and the strength of the rave reviews I've seen here at the forum, I'm going for it. The prices are unbelievable. I'm Canadian, so I'm happy to support a fledgling business here too. I'd been considering a Tiny Terror, for its low wattage and price, but I'm hoping this will kick the pants off of it!

I guess I'll have updates to follow, it's going to be several weeks I think. I really need to invest in a decent mic for recording since I have XLRs on my soundcard.

Well done MGT11. They really are great amps. It's going to be a long wait. What are you doing for a cabinet?

Congrats on getting one while they are still accessible. You'll love it. Its not a toy amp though. It roars.

Cab for the head? I'll probably rig something up something fairly ugly for the short term. I like what LPV did with his black cab, perhaps we could convince him to create plans and share them

It will tear up any TT. I packed my Vox Night Train and put it away. Be very percise and careful in commuicating with Randy. He is very busy and mistakes happen.

Pay close attention when talking about cabinets. I was talking about speaker cabs. He was referring to head cabs. I said that I didn't need one.

Yeah, I hear he is very busy, but I think he's getting some help now, so hopefully everything will run smoothly.

Re: Phaez Trigger Pull!

Anybody have suggestions for a speaker cab? Currently, I only have a Peavey Classic 50 2/12.

I'd probably like to stick with the 2/12 or 1/12 configuration for the sake of practicality. I think a 4/12 would probably be a bit much.

I'd thought of making a cab, but I have no shop (help! I'm trapped in Suburbia!) and by the time I factor in the costs of a good speaker and materials, I think it ends up being close to the price of a new cab.

Catalog | SteamcoMusic dot Com sells a new line of canadian made cabs but they seem a bit pricey. Yes the 412's are indeed impractical but they are almost your best bang for the 'used' buck right now because so many people are moving to smaller cabs. Stay away from g12t75's tho, unless you are in a Judas Priest or Scorpions cover band of course.

lol... 'This....is......the .....pain....killer!!!...'

Long & McQuade has 1x12 and 2x12 Traynor cabs cheap but I suspect that for that money, the Celestions in them are dodgy.

I'm also considering ripping the guts out of my Classic 50 and bastardizing it into a cab... it might be crazy, but it's something I already own vs. selling it to fund a cab purchase.

Huffdaddy mentioned this, its a greenback. Would do the trick nicely I suspect.

I think Mark (Deftone) just ordered the best cab of any of us Phaez owners. He's getting a Sourmash 2x12 Marshall 2061 cab. I have several Sourmash cabs and can attest to their quality and value.

I was referring to this one, with a Celestion 70/80 speaker...

Long & McQuade - Products - Traynor Custom Valve 112 Extension Cabinet

I read that they were crap, but never tried one. The darkhorse cab looks better though.

I don't think they are crap but they aren't for me. I'd bet the greenback would sound awesome with the Phaez.

Greenbacks would indeed sound good, but I suggest one of the Eminence versions instead, more power handling and a warmer high end from my experience...

Scumbacks sound pretty good too...

Scumbacks are great . As are Webers. By any chance has someone compared a regular celestion blue to a Weber blue?

Re: Phaez Trigger Pull!

I was just looking at Avatar cabinets, they look reasonable too. Anyone had experience buying from Canada (brokerage fees, tax, etc.)? That can be a bit of a crap shoot, I hear.

You can have Randy's cab builder make you a cab if he is not too busy, he does nice work and very reasonable...

I guess the best thing would be to wait until I get amp in hand and go from there.

I want one, but the piggy bank is empty. *sigh*

I know you'll love yours, though. I've never heard a single bad thing about a Phaez amp. It has the best reputation of all the amps I've ever heard of. Darn, I hope I can find some cash quick. I want one - bad!

I totally understand your feelings, I was jonesing for one before I got mine (Ark Model D, Daisycutter preamp with a unique new power section)

His amps really do have that special something that few amps have that make you want to play until your fingers bleed, truly inspiring electronic instruments they are...

11, I have been racking my brain trying to find a cabinet. I have a Phaze on the way (JTM45 kinda thing) and I have bought 2 Scumback speakers, One H55, and one H75. Used I paid $100 shipped for one, and $125 shipped for the other. You can get some good deals in the classified section of MLP. Matter of fact, I think I saw a green back or 2 on there now, pretty reasonable. But the cabs are driving me crazy. I really want a 18 watt style Marshal. Looked at Avatar... don't know about the "glue and nails thing". Plus they "farm them out", meaning they don't do the build, someone else does. They, by their own words "go for volume" to keep the cost down. Kind Walmart like, or our fav, GC. I do like the Sourmash stuff. A little more money, but not much.

Re: Phaez Trigger Pull!

Rocknhorse1, can you post a pic of the 18 watt Marshall cab you're referring to? Is is like my Phaez cab (2x12 Bluesbreaker)? Every Sourmash cab I've bought has been less expensive than Avatar, and in my opinion better built. I'm curious to see what you're looking at.

Re: Phaez Trigger Pull!

I guess I was wrong, the Sourmash Bluesbreaker extension cab is $260.
The 18watt style combo is $230. You cant get the 18 watt as an extension, at least they don't offer it on the site.
The Bluesbreaker comes both, combo and extension.
For $10 bucks the Sourmash is the way to go I guess.
