Firebird Freaks!

Instead of highjacking the other thread about firebirds sounding great or not I figured I would start one just for firebird fanatics to post pics of your 'birds! Static shots, stage shots, whatever!

I bought it in 84 in syracuse ny. You can see the circle on the guitar where it was but it doesn't have the medallion anymore. The headstock was broken off in two pieces around 1987 and the guy who was supposed to fix it sawed everything off at the nut and gave me back three pieces. It would have been a pretty simple fix really but he didn't know what he was doing and at the time neither did I for giving it to him! I carried it around broke until around 92 where I found carl mayforth in albuquqerque new mexico who took the pieces and made a template for a new headstock that he grafted into the neck. The case dropped face first on the floor one other time about seven years ago and popped the joint loose and had to be re-glued. That guitar has been drug through the mud! It already had the humbuckers put in it in 84 and they are early dimarzio's. They are only about 7.5k. The pickguard also was drilled with two holes back then for mini switches so when I started playing blues and R&B I added the switches since the holes were already there and coil tapped the pups. Carl added the serial number off the original headstock to the new one and it is verified as a 72 also from the date code on the volume and tone pots.

Re: Firebird Freaks!

This is my '78. The bigsby isn't actually drilled to the body. I have a vibramate plate under it (http://www.elderly.com/accessories/items/VIBV5.htm)

Re: Firebird Freaks!

I love Firebirds, but at this point I would only consider the Epi bird. Great guitars, and priced right.

Re: Firebird Freaks!

Here's a couple of shots of my Firebird (whisper it but it's a Tokai not Gibson!). I've upgraded the pick-ups to a Seymour Duncan at the bridge and 1970's Gibson mini-humbucker at the neck (probably from a LP Deluxe) -

Re: Firebird Freaks!

So...... I had to pawn my 72 to get my family through xmas. I had a really bad motorcycle accident on sept 27th where I ended up getting my left leg on the wrong side of a guide wire cable coming off of a telephone pole at about thirty MPH. Fractured pelvis, five vertebrae, tore all the ligaments, tendons, and muscle tissue where my leg attaches to my body. I am a working musician and could barely walk with a walker for over two months. I have been walking without a cane for about three or so weeks now. I paid the interest on it today. I can only think of two other times since I bought it in 84 that I was willing to pawn it. Wish me luck.

Holt1 - you've got me confused again. You said the Black Firebird is a 2001 Orville. Didn't they stop making Orvilles in 1998??
