Orville's for sale?

Is it me or is there a real lack of Orvilles for sale on the bay at the moment? Always like to have a window shop now and then but nothing doing it for me at the moment. Could it be that people are deciding to keep onto what they've got.

Could be...maybe sellers are hanging on to them thinking they won't get a fair price in this down economy?
If you're brave try Yahoo Japan auctions. It's always fun checking out the Orvilles and other MIJ Les Pauls on there.

Re: Orville's for sale?

We have seen your Orville collection, UITA. It's perfectly reasonable to assume that every Orville produced, save for the one for sale at BCR, is in your house. There's nothing left to buy.

I have noticed they have dried up, but here's one UITA doesn't own (not for sale though).

Visit daily, date the owners daughter/son, buy the building next door. These things need to be done.

The Japanese are wise to what they've got, prices have shot up in the last 6 months. Bargains are no longer as frequent if at all. Why can't we go back to the good ol days when people thought that the K= Korea and the only Orville in the UK was a green duck who had regular colon checks. I want them all I tell you.

Re: Orville's for sale?

Given what I paid for mine recently and the economy, I think the present ebay offerings are all priced $100-200 too high. Around $650 for a nice Orville Standard is really more realistic. For a custom I would probably go $700. Then add on around $50 for 48US shipping.mt

Orville without serial number, is this a 1989-1993: Terada K serial number Orville guitars with Yamano Gakki (K) serial number stickers?

Re: Orville's for sale?

just wait for the economy, as more people go broke and sell their gear the most desperate they get the lower the prices.

I know it sucks but sometimes you profit from the misfortunes of others.

Re: Orville's for sale?

That's assuming the buyer isn't also going broke.

A Orville solid body with no serial is usually a K Orville. Serials on the Orville solid bodies started in 1993 when Fujigen entered into making Orvilles. From 1989-1993 only Terada made the Orvilles and from 1988-late 1992 only Terada made the Orville by Gibsons so it was up to Terada whether they used serials or not. Terada didn't have to use serials because they were the only factory making them. After Fujigen also entered in late 1992 all of the Orvilles used serials with the Terada Orvilles using a J serial and Fujigen using a no letter serial. This is a common thing. When there are multiple factories making the same guitar models then usually different serial number codes are used by the factories mainly for warranty issues and returns.

Re: Orville's for sale?

Hey guys i created an account just for this wonderful thread. I just moved to Yokota AFB in the outskirts of Tokyo. Ive been looking for some locally made guitars to test the wonderful stereotype about all asain made guitars are either fakes, or crap. So far I am pleased to announce that this is simply not true as i have stumbled upon a store right outside of the bases gate loaded with dozens of Orvilles. I've been in that store several times and am getting to know the owner pretty well and today she was kind enough to give me a brief lesson on previous Gibson/Japanese relations. She explained to me that the Orvilles were not copies at all but merely another branch of Gibson that is no longer around. After hearing that I went home and started researching about the company, reviews of their guitars, and looking to see if there is a market for them in the states. As you guys have stated there does seem to be a shortage of Orvilles on Ebay, however i have seen several youtube videos where people are asking for info on obtaining an Orville. Now after typing a blogs worth of information, for which i apologize, I am ready to ask my question. Is there a market for Orville guitars in the states? Anyone know if i would be able to turn a profit buying and reselling to Americans? And does anyone know if there are any legal issues that may arise from buying and reselling? Thanks for your time and responses in advance.
