Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

So, we've seen a few of this guys "visions" show up in threads over the past Month or so, and I stumbled across his "latest" a few minutes ago (apologies if this has already been posted).

Epiphone by Gibson Rat Rod Les Paul Standard Distressed Aged Relic 711106019116 | eBay

No real offense to the creator of this garbage, but $1,000.00 Get real!

PS: love the "questions" on the bottom of the listing...

PSS: is there a "smilie" that barfs...?

Already posted in the backstage the other day,
but yeah....

I've been saying we need a barfing smilie for years!

And if playable, it looks kind of cool. Not $995 cool, but cool.

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

It "might" be fun to customize/disfigure a guitar like that , but I have too much respect for machinery to even do it to a "$100 special", let alone a perfectly good LP Standard!

There should be a law against that kind of thing. People who do that to good guitars should have their hands cut off.

Doubtful because I can't see anyone in their right mind buying that and certainly not quick.

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

Hahaha, reminds me of Tracy G. Surely if I wanted that done on a guitar, I'd buy one used and a blowtorch. Acid would have to be bought with more care, but it isn't too costy either. And I'd save myself.. I dunno. 700-800 dollahs? Depending on if I wanted the buzz feiten. And the gold.. evo.. fretless fretjob? What?

Anyways, it has obviously had some effort put into it:

I wouldn't buy it for that much, though, most people not at all. I'd rather make my own. But hey, maybe someone is looking for exactly that.

I love this bit:
"The original pickups are carefully acid etched to make the wax more brittle (like aged) so the bobbins 'breath' more."

Oh dear.

Item condition: Manufacturer refurbished:

"
An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer or manufacturer-approved vendor. This means the product has been inspected, cleaned, and repaired to meet manufacturer specifications and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in the original packaging."

I wonder if Epiphone approved this "refurbish?"

I was unsure of this, it should have a lip going over the fretboard, right? I can't quite tell if there is one.

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

I have it on my LTD, it looks like this...

*stock photo*

It doesn't look like a crooked, home-made nut that has the treble strings buried so deep in their slots they look super glued into place.

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

Uhm.. isn't that an earvana on the LTD? Buzz feiten (I'm pretty sure 90% of people can't see the joke in buzz fighting, btw) is different. I think. It's "compensated" at the bridge. I think.

EDIT: I made a silly, of course every TOM bridge is "compensated" (intonation adjusted) from the bridge..

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

The Buzz Feiten tuning system IS the compensated nut.

and some intonation adjustment at the bridge.

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

But I thought it was compensated differently, as per here:
http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/gibs...tml#post562467

I could be horribly wrong in this, but I think you're mixing earvana and buzz feiten.

EDIT: also here: http://straightfrets.com/electric-gu...-installation/

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

... look at the bridge on the auction guitar.

His "buzz fighten" system is his crooked, homemade, compensated nut with buried treb strings.

The bridge looks stock.

You're right though I did mix up Earvana and BF. Same diff though, neither are on the auction guitar.

That's just a f**ked up guitar. Veneer is totally gouged off the deck, all the plastics are melted,...it's just nasty. ..even took the torch to the fret markers it looks like.

Bet it smells awful too.

Torching a guitar is not "art" and it's not relicing. (unless you're Hendrix)

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

It might actually be a buzz feiten nut, just cut.. well, amateurishly. So he probably paid for it and then botched it up by installing it himself.

But yeah, it's not really that appealing in any case. Still, it reminds me of Tracy G..

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

yeah, to each their own. That GT with the mini-buckers is pretty cool.

I can't say I never trashed a guitar or beat one up,...I just look down on those who try to sell these casualties as "art" or anything good or unique.

They're not,..they're just trashed and f**ked up guitars.

I'm not "anti-relic" (it's not my thing, but whatever)

I'm anti "horrible relics done with a blowtorch and labeled as art"

Really...

"With its bare and aged neck it feels like a 50 year old instrument that has been put through the paces and came out like a phoenix"... More like an insurance write off to me
In which universe would anyone pay real money for this artifact.

Relification (if that is even a word) tastefully done, does look cool,

If I had the cash to burn I'd buy the poor Relic it to put it out of it's misery. Oh well someone may buy it for $955.00 so 'to each their own'

I mean, mojo is cool, I'd love to own a 50s Gibson, but on a new instrument it is ridiculous.

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

Instruments from the 50's seem to have aged a bit more.. gracefully, shall we say, in real life..

GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM (1956) - Elderly Instruments

..then again, for someone, melted goopy mess of ex-finish might be just the right mojo. I've been looking at that burnt thingy every now and then, because something about it bothered me. Then it struck. The maple looks too new. I wonder if it could be sanded down, given a wood stain treatment and.. nah, not with that nut.

Gotta love that there's a case with it... a hard case at that!

If ever there was a guitar that could only be improved by breaking, then it's this...

Damned shame

Re: Bad Relicing keeps getting WORSE!

Does anyone actually carry an LP in a giant Fender'ish case like that?

One of the cool things (imo) about LP's is the sleek violin style case you carry them in.

I have a big ol' tweed Fender case and it's a pain in the ass compared to the sexy LP case.

(I actually really like the Epi hardcases. I've dropped my guitar twice now in it's case (heart attack moment) and both times the guitar was fine.)
