Let's See Your Vintage Goldtops

Many will agree that there is something really amazing about the elegance of a Les Paul GT. Here's my all original '56 GT.

Now, let's see your vintage GTs!

Awesome guitars, Alex...I wish I could contribute to this thread, but the only bits of old wood I have are either black or blonde/natural

Re: Let's See Your Vintage Goldtops

Elegant says it perfectly well, although I think goldtops have a look that is both completely elegant and bad-ass at the same time. Goldies are my personal favorites, and pictured below is the only vintage example that I've ever owned. Needless to say, I'm beyond sad to say that I owned this one for a painfully short time. One of only four known lefties from 1954.

Re: Let's See Your Vintage Goldtops

this is Ruth, a 1955 gold top. I just became her 2nd steward. The original owner passed away and his daughter sold her to me a few weeks ago.
I've been meaning to make a thread about this guitar but I've been waiting to get better pictures taken.
The original owner's daughter provided me with pictures of him playing it in 1959. Its pretty much untouched, has the strap it came with, spotless case, etc. He was very church going and didn't feel right about playing gigs. She thinks she has the original receipt still but hasn't come across it yet. The tuners are super clean, the plastic knobs on them are totally healthy, no sign of the crumbling corrosion I see on a lot of old lesters. I took her in to get checked out and apparently the truss rod cover had never even been taken off.

Its actually rather heavy, has a solid heft to it, but its loud acoustically and sustains forever; that wraparound just rings like a bell & intonates perfectly.

I've done a number of shows with her in the last few weeks and the tone is to die for.

Re: Let's See Your Vintage Goldtops

1956 Les Paul. Was originally shipped to Rhodesia from the US when new & then eventually came back to Australia many years later.

Not mine, but I should have grabbed this when the owner of the store owed me a $hitload of money.............if he actually owned it of course.

Apparently a great player with a lot of Vibe.

Lovely girl, Ruth is. And that was my mother's name. What's not to like? Congrats!
