Re: Orlando guitar show 2014

Just to bump it, are any of the sponsors here going to have a booth down here once again?

I'm planning to go Saturday for the entire time so that I scout for humbuckers and a Schaller Bridge-Tailpeice, along with possibly buying in person from MojoTone.com for electronics. (they had a booth there last year.)

Not me. Clearly one of the worst shows out there IMHO and the new venue is a dump.

We wouldn't care if they threw a guitar show in a toxic waste dump. We'll still be there with bells on- stop by and say hello!

Ive never in my life seen so many strap locks for $5.00 , every one had them....

Got there early and was very crowed so taking pic's was impossible and i seen nothing really pic worthy.....

I they did have more guitar pedals this year and cash waving in there face , i got some very cool deals on them and some Fender tele parts......

Got a good sugar hight from eating all the venders candy they had laying out !

We hit up GC, Discount Music, Georges music, and a lot of pawn shops on the way back.....It was a different vibe this year at the show but at least we got out of town for the day.....Mike

Re: Orlando guitar show 2014

I'll work on the pics later... I can't judge everyone's tastes, so I will list the items that peeked my interest:

1955 LP Wraptail - $22k
1954/55 BB (newer klusons) - $19.5k
1958 LP BB (stop tail) - $40K
1952 GT - $14.5k (had wraptail and neck already reset - great conversion candidate! under 8 pounds).

I managed to buy a protector case there as well for $150.

There were also:
1954 Strat (refin)
1956 Strat (guy was an idiot and would only talk to dealers - all of them undercut what he was asking for)
1957 Strat
1958 Strat
1959 Strat
1960 White strat (could have been olympic white - which I like, but this guitar seemed a bit more white and less of a blue hue. I would call it arctic white, but I don't think fender used that color at that time.)
Jim's Guitars had a 1956 GT all original for $45k and tried to convince me someone would pay that much for it, but the price was a little negotiable.

Sonic blue Jag
Candy Apple Red Jag

Rick Derringer was there playing, and had some of this guitars for sale...1965 strat, 1966 strat.

Last year was my first year there and I would call last year the year of the LP Jr, as they were everywhere... not so this year. nothing really stood out as the dominant vintage guitar... (possibly melody makers).

I was able to meet Drew Berlin (burst brother) and Eric Ernest. Eric is a great guy and a hope we become good friends over the years! I bought some vintage magnets from him. Eric, if you read this, thanks! Highly recommend him... oh, he had an aged and signed Jimmy Page #1 (#22 or #21 - can't remember) that he was asking $85k for.

No bursts this year. There was an off-center '57 that somebody re-finned with a burst.

Re: Orlando guitar show 2014

Jim's had some Danny Gatton gear that was at least cool to see. I was hoping to see a 61-62 LP Jr there at a good price but eh, not so much.

Re: Orlando guitar show 2014

I was there Saturday afternoon. I saw a few familar faces: "Burst Brother" Drew Berlin, Eric Ernest, etc. And Rick Derringer was back in the Warrior Guitars booth this year... always a pleasure to listen to him playing the blues. Great guy and very down to earth! Anyway, here's some pics...

Me with the inventor of the BeatBuddy (see my other thread on this cool new pedal coming soon)...

Re: Orlando guitar show 2014

If you ran into a guy with a Grey USF Bulls jacket while making the rounds, that was me.

Got to see a PRS Bass in person for the first time, along with some great sounding amps all over the place. Almost jumped on a Johnson J-Station, and even stopped by Grinning Elk's booth for a chat. Alias I didn't walk out with anything useful hard-ware wise for my project. Even then, it was a pretty good expo overall.

Though whoever that really big dude was who had the StoneTone Floyd Rose block on him... jeez, I haven't heard so much gossip coming out of one person in quiet awhile like that. Loud as f-ck, kinda unprofessional... the people you meet at these things, jeez. But on the other hand, also ran into USF fans, and even a 1971 Alumni.

Hope next year will be just as good, if not better... maybe then I will have cash to buy something serious.
