Question on Volume pot (perry burst vs les paul custom)

I recently got (yesterday) a beautiful Les Paul Joe Perry ’59 VOS.

Although I am extremely pleased with the purchases I have a question.
The sensitivity of the volume knob seems to be quite different than what I have on my Les Paul Custom 2012 (and also different to my Studio or even Epiphone Riviera).
It cleans up very quickly with the volume just at 7-6, below this, say around 3 it is almost mute. I used both a Marshall class 5 and Blackstar HT1 to test it.
On the opposite my Les Paul Custom volume pot doesn’t seem to do anything until I reach the 3-4 volume level on the knob and then it mutes when it is on 0.

Any experience on that on other Joe Perry and generally on historics?

Thanks

Re: Question on Volume pot (perry burst vs les paul custom)

I have no experience with such expensive Gibson Les Pauls lol, but my '69 Strat was doing the same thing, 10 would roaring and then 7-8 it was clean. I replaced the electronics (they weren't original to start with) and it was fine it cleaned up after 5. Maybe it's the pot, would hope not seeing it's a new Gibson Custom Shop

Probably 500k log taper pots vs. 300k linear taper on the others, wired 50s style instead of modern.

I'd say do a search on here, but you'll break the internet.

You probably have a linear pot instead of a taper pot, regardless of the value.

Cant you see anything in the control cavity? Pot numbers?

Besides the pots, if your guitars haven't been modified then you are comparing 50s wiring on the 59 to modern wiring on the Custom. There many threads on the differences as well.
