My '04 Standard xray

For those interested, here is an xray of my '04 Standard. Was just curious about the insides so took a film. I know alot of you may have seen this before in previous threads but other owners of '04 may think it's cool. 9 swiss cheese holes as advertised.....

Are the holes in any sort of pattern or just random holes to lose some weight?

Interesting, even though we've seen it so many times before. How did you get that done? I wonder if my 13' trad plus is really solid.

I am in orthopedics and did it here at the office. Holes seemed to be free handed to me. But most Ive seen are in similar places.

That is so cool.
I have a gibson t-shirt that is supposed to be an xray of your body and there is a les paul inside. It must have been an older paul because it doesnt have any holes.

From looking at a few xray pics, I have to agree with you, free handed, although my first reaction would be to say there must be a programmed router for these holes as well as for the other "holes" for tailpiece, bridge, pups, etc.. But if there were, the "cheese" holes would be at the exact same place on all the guitars. Except if there are a few automatic routers in operations, the holes might not all be at the same place.

Anyway, thanks for posting!
I guess it's a question many are wondering about here!
How is my guitar swiss cheesed?

I suspect he'd want to keep the radiation exposure to a minimum. That was my philosophy when working in nuclear medicine. No reason for gratuitous exposure just to satisfy some desire for cool wallpaper. However, he may be just that stupid (doubt it) and cater to the whims of those less informed.

If he's required to wear a radiation badge don't count on any cool wallpaper in the foreseeable future. Otherwise there might be a remote possibility.

Ya,

I get kidney stones, so I've been blasted with X-rays too many times. Next time I get a stone I'm I'll take my guitar...

Re: My '04 Standard xray

Here is another. Looks the same. They have to be CNC cut. I remember reading Gibson picked an area of the body so the holes wouldn't affect anything (debatable) and then just drilled nine holes with no rhyme or reason.

Re: My '04 Standard xray

What would be more interesting is an MRI of the guitar. A time lapse video is created with an MRI and one could view that video and the guitar at any number of axis including inside each of those cavities if desired.

The x-ray does not appear to indicate pathology in the areas chambered, but one might consider further examination as the areas of the pickup and control cavity appear to be quite hot upon radiographic examination. Are those stock pickups and pots or have they been replaced with hotter aftermarket products?
