2014 Les Pauls Lookig Good

Personally I can't wait for the 2014 Les Pauls to come out. Word is they
will be the best yet! inside information says they'll make the 13s a thing of the past.
sure glad I didn't waste my money on
a crappy 13 !!!

Peace

No Troll , someone posted that they can't do all the improvments in 1 year (that would shut everything down NOT) so every year they will be better .

I'm going to wait for a few years and get the whole correctly made guitar . Why waste your money on 1/2 a correctly done guitar , when Gibson will , Someday do it right .

Re: 2014 Les Pauls Lookig Good

Well, I'll play ball.

Here's what I think, and it's certainly not for everyone. The 2013 Les Pauls are the best Historics in terms of specs on paper. Gibson made the big changes for us. The unsheathed truss road, accurate tuners, hide glue neck joint, superb PAF like pickups, better inlays, aniline dye, longer studs, and "supposedly a thinner, harder finished with a better nitro/plasticizer ratio. I'm not 100% sure about that last one, it's not a confirmed fact I don't think. Anyway, in my case, my LP has a nice hard, thin finish imo.

Gibson can certainly improve, there is always room for improvement, but they left us with all of the "easy" stuff to do. I say stuff to do if you're a vintage styled dude or just want a different look or sound. Things like plastic, thumbwheels, and the wiring harness. Those are not hard changes to make, and really, it's all about down to what each person likes. I don't see everyone here buying the same hardware and electronics when they "modify" their guitar.

So, I think 2013s are the best yet because Gibson has gotten the Historics a lot closer to vintage specs than in previous years, they look and feel great, and most changes that can be made going forward are the small changes that we can all do at home. Sure, they could spray a different mixture nitro finish, but that being an improvement is subjective. (which all of this is really).

Well then, my 2013 R9s are for sale...and I haven't even got them yet.

I am waiting for 2015; as has been noted, it is Les Paul's 100th birthday. There will be 100 Les Paul The Original Log Aged and Signed by Les Paul. It will be named The Les Paul Les Paul.

Re: 2014 Les Pauls Lookig Good

I heard from a VERY reliable source, that Gibson will stop making the Les Paul due to lack of interest and low sales and start to produce something called the SG (short for solid guitar) about midway through 2015!

If history is any indication, I am going to start buying up all these 2013 R9s and keep them under the bed. They are gonna be worth trillions one day. Missed the boat in 1959. I am sure as hell am not gonna miss it again.

I read it here that the 2013s are the new 1959s.

1. This is a troll thread
2. Every new thing is 'better than the last' according to people who want you to buy it
3. 1959 Les Pauls are the most overrated guitars on the planet.

Here's Pluto:

Re: 2014 Les Pauls Lookig Good

they can do "better" and "more acurate" inlays, or "better" and "more acurate" colored tulip tuners, or other irrelevant crap...as long they can not use brazilian rosewood or oldgrown woods which are soundwise important, the lpīs will never ever be correct and acurate 59ers!

the hole thing is sale strategy to fool spec-hipsters. they have an endless list with "acurate specs" and every year they realise just a few of them to increase the sales. the mid 90īs (93-96) historics are the most inacurate historics ever. but to me, wood- and sound-wise on an average, the best historics. who cares about the edges of the inlays if the tone is right?

I don't think that Brazilian has anything to do with sound. Can you pick out the difference in sound of a brizilian board and a lets say an Indian board, If you can you are a better man than I.

well i cant say which one sounds better (at least a matter of taste) but they sound for sure different. they are different conspecies with different density, composition, pores, color etc. the 50īs lpīs had braz boards. nowadays they dont. it is an important difference specially in compare to other specs like e.g. the edges of the inlays and the color of the tulip tuners.

I'm just waiting for the time machine so Gibson can go back and snag all of the "lost in action or missing" '59s and sell them to us as Prelinear Old Stock.

They don't sound any different. Brazilian just make the neck a little more rigid.
They did not have light or super light gage guitar strings back then.
