Guitar Center Consignment

Anyone know if Guitar Center offers a consignment type of thing with used gear? Or is your only option to sell it to them?

Re: Guitar Center Consignment

Probably to sell it to them. I've never heard of them doing that for used gear, so IDK.

I believe they do that for local band's CD's though.

Re: Guitar Center Consignment

Either way you are going to get raped. IMO better to sell it yourself to someone for a decent price over getting half of what it's worth from GC so they can sell it for profit. IMO selling yourself makes you more money and even saves the buyer money on the price they pay.

Re: Guitar Center Consignment

The answer is no. Just put your stuff on Craigslist. You might have to deal with some weirdos, but you'll get a fairer price for what you're selling.

Re: Guitar Center Consignment

best selling options:
1. craigs
2. ebay
3. anything but selling to guitar center

the fees you'd pay to ebay and paypal are nothing compared to the pennies guitar center would give you.

I've had this guitar on Craigslist for over a year now and I've renewed it quite a few times too.

IFAIK GC doesn't do consignments.
My local store does handle lots of used and vintage gear and the prices are more than fair most of the time.

Your price? Maybe your price?

Have you listed it in the MLP classifieds yet?

Re: Guitar Center Consignment

If it is an LP, I've heard of some forum full of wackos that worship LPs. They even have a sub forum where members can hock their sh*t. If you click the guitar logo at the very top left of this page, it will take you to their home page.

What is it? How much?

I've lowered the price a few times too. Didn't really wanna put it in the Classifieds here, because I don't really like shipping guitars.

Even if you were local to me, I'd find you here before I'd find you on CL.

Re: Guitar Center Consignment

Tried your local free classifieds? There are ways of selling but if you aren't willing to ship that greatly reduces your opportunities. IMO consider shipping the guitar and it will probably be sold in a week or less.

Shipping a guitar is not hard. How do you think they get from the manufacturers to the stores. The buyer usually pays for the shipping also.

other side of the coin: i check craigslist every day, but i never look at the classifieds here. i'm more likely to find somebody on craigs who is willing to make a deal.

Yeah, people on CL are a lot more clueless than the educated gearwhores of MLP.

Post a link to the ad. Maybe some of us geniuses could give you suggestions on how to move that sucker.

I actually wanna sell it to save up for a Les Paul. It's a Dean Dixie Rebel.....stupidly bought it when I first started playing guitar. Nowadays I'm a much bigger fan of more traditional guitars. I have it at $500 right now on Craigslist. Anyone know how much it would cost to ship it?

Those guitars are notoriously hard to sell because of the Confederate flag design (and they're pointy). It costs between $60 and $100 to ship a guitar to the lower 48, Up to $150 to AL & HI and more to overseas.

Well, then, my son, you relegated to craigslist and will have to contend with the folks who go there to seek deals.

I would say this though, buyer's pay shipping, and there is insurance which can be purchased too.

All you would need to do is take the guitar to a FedEx/UPS store, have them pack it up and you're done.

That's all I know about anything in this world.

Well that sort of changes everything!

Specialty stuff is way harder to sell.

You can ship that guitar for maybe $50.00??? or pretty close to that.

I just looked it (Dean DR) and it's a cool looking guitar (please (not directed t you, Jernst) spare me the rebel flag castigation).

From what I can tell, that's a really reasonable price. On fleabay, the "buy it nows" are all around a grand ("or best offer"). The problem is amazon has it for $666.31 (how did they come up with that price?) so the fleabay is irrelevant (unless there really are suckers out there).

Madison may not be the best spot for such misunderstood iconography. There's one on CL in Austin for $675. You might want to pick a few key southern markets and put it on CL stating that you're not local but willing to ship.

The key to selling anything on craigslist is the photos, you need to take the best, most dazzling photos you can to put in your ad.

Check with your local mom and pop music store. Many of them will let you sell an item on consignment.

Re: Guitar Center Consignment

Why would someone buy your's used for $500 + shipping, when they can get a brand new one for $617.62 (free shipping) from Amazon? IMO, you've got it priced too high. Were it mine, I'd keep it and save up for the new guitar you want. You might run across a big Dimebag Darrel fan with a lust for confederate flags somewhere and be able to unload it later...or it will remain as part of your ever growing collection.

If you're selling it to a retailer, bring your own lube. They don't supply any.
