Well, it's one of the reasons thrown around for him not renewing the 10 year contract when it expired, but it's not what Les says. He mentioned in his autobiography that the divorce was looming over him and he wanted to wait until that was finalized before he renewed the agreement with Gibson, so he took the opportunity presented him. I assume that means that he didn't want any future royalties from Gibson to go to Mary. Gibson even asked Les if it was OK to put the SG out without the Les Paul name on it during this time, and Les agreed. When the divorce was finalized, Les signed the new agreement. Les states there were no guitars with the Les Paul name produced during this hiatus between 1962 and most of 1965.
He didn't mention his opinion on the SG one way or the other in the book that I recall.
BTW, I'll have to own up to a slip of the wit here, it wasn't an SG on the show, it was a regular white Les Paul.
