Re: Diamond Jubilee

Sorry Ranky I had to do it. Might as well get it out the way early on.

I was only 10 in 77. Short in stature & pubic hair but I do remember that being a very interesting year indeed.

Is this going to be another snooze fest? There are plenty of things right and wrong about every country. I'm not bothered either way by the Monarchy, like it or not the majority of us are subjects whoever is head of state, and that includes your country too.

Re: Diamond Jubilee

I didn't appreciate the royals when I was younger.
Now I'm older I appreciate their value to the country more.
Wish I could have my money back, but I sort of think of it as an investment now.
Also wish they'd stop saying they're just looking after it all for me....!

In before the scruffy silver haired socialist worker selling republicans.
We have a street party tomorrow organised by the local library and may head up to Tower Bridge for the flotilla on Sunday.
A chance to celebrate the past 60 years. Nice one Liz.

You consider the other countries that make up the UK to be colonists? Your lack of knowledge is astounding.

Re: Diamond Jubilee

I am not a Royalist; but I do enjoy watching people party and having a good time and I really am enjoying the patriotism being shown.

Plus, looking on the positive sides, the celebrations come right before the football Euro 2012 competition and then of course the olympics - and things have been a bit gloomey of late (recession etc) - so it can't be a bad thing to celebrate where you are from and actually have a bit of partying.

Having said all that (as stated in other royalty threads); I don't wish them any harm; but also don't give a rats ass about them (love that saying yanks ) but today is not about that; so cheers to those of you that do - and enjoy the music, partying and fun

Matt

Re: Diamond Jubilee

I respect the Royal family, but i'm no Royalist, and not something i base my life around. Either way, i think the people celebrating this most will be the English. To me it's just not something that us Scots celebrate in any big way or make a big deal about, I dunno about anywhere else though.

Then there is my cousin's husband who posted photos this morning on Facebook of their little celebration at home in Ayr (my cousin is from Ayr and he is from Troon).

When i said "big deal", i meant street parties and the like Closing roads for parties and such just doesn't happen here.

Bet if you were all offered free 'Buckie' and deep-fried mars bars you'd all be well up for it!
