Blackberry Smoke

It seems not many people have heard of this band, so I wanted to post this video. The band is called Blackberry Smoke, and they have two insane guitar players. This is some serious raw Les Paul tone.

If you are thinking the beginning of the song sounds familiar to you, it does. They typically do the entire intro to Brown Sugar by ZZ Top to start the song, but only perform the intro guitar at this gig.

Re: Blackberry Smoke

Yeah they rock. The Turner brothers were in a killer metal band in the 80's called Nihilist (not the swedish band) in the ATL, biggest following of any local band and had absolute command of the stage.

Yeah. This band was featured on Palladia in concert yesterday. Good stuff. The lead singer has an old beat to **** LP Junior. Love it!

Oh my! Nice.

That lead singer looks like he was born for doing this. Love the way he looks completely relaxed and at home while playing that guitar.

They were on Palladia? I missed that. I'll have to see if they will air it again.

A black Junior?

I wonder if that is a refinished one, a BJA Jr, or something else

It's hard to tell. It looks like he swapped the pickup and changed out the bridge. It sure looks like it has seen some use though.

The other guitarist seems to favor Norlin era Les Pauls. He has a plaintop with a Lemonburst look to it, and a Goldtop. Both of his guitars look like late '70s or early '80s models.

I doubt it's a Billy Joe model. It looks pretty old, and may have been refinished.

When I saw them on Palladia, it looked like an old guitar with a rattle can refinish that was also flaking off. He also played an old SG with 1 P90.

Re: Blackberry Smoke

I think I'll bump this thread.

Saw them on AUD channel this morning, never heard of them before.

Good music, good tone.

A new fan here.

Saw these guys on Palladia a month ago, and was so impressed that I immediately bought their albums and DVD to add to my collection. Fantastic music, and stage presence. Man, can those guys rock some Gibsons, or what???

Re: Blackberry Smoke

I saw them in Newport, RI last year by chance. They were excellent and from my vantage point above them, I could really watch the guitar playing. I was amazed at how easily they made playing look. Highly recommended!
