Pickup covers ?

Just wondering if any one has pulled the pickup covers off the stock Gibson pickups on there historic. I'm curious because I might do it and I want an idea of what effects it will have.

Re: Pickup covers ?

Good to know.... I wonder if there is a chance of there being double creams under those covers

you can check first before removing covers, unscrew pole screw and look at the bobbin color on that side, for the slug side unscrew one of the baseplate screws on that side and check that bobbin color, chances of double cream is slight but you never know till you check, any change in sound is very small and hardly noticeable.

Re: Pickup covers ?

With one exception I tend to remove them from every guitar. Ok ok, no Strat or P90 .

Re: Pickup covers ?

The chances of there being DC bobbins under those covers are slim to none,at best.

IMO,I hear no difference between covered/un-covered.
To me,it's another aluminium/nickel/chrome STP & bridge debate.

YMMV,of course.

Re: Pickup covers ?

Does anyone know the last time Gibson even made DC bobbins ? 1the last 1's i recall are JimmyAces frpm the 90's . If your lucky you'd find Zebra's .

Maybe with Stock Gibson pickups ,depending on what pickups and what pots are in the guitar you could hear a difference . I've found that putting the covers on my Sheds, made it easy to hear the difference.
