I really liked the Curt Mangan Fusion Matched Guitar Strings that Big Mike turned me on to. Very well balanced.. And they hold up very well with my tester guitars...

Dittos on the nickel, steel sounds awful, nickel is the way to go.

I have mine made by DR. Pure nickel wrap on a round core.

I use Stainless Steel on all my basses, but the nickel does sound better on the guitars.

Re: Best Strings for an LP

Nickel doesn't last in this climate. I get about 5 days out of them, where swedish steel (d'addario) lasts a full 10 days or more...

Re: Best Strings for an LP

I'm probably in the minority but I've had really good luck with Dean Markley Blue Steels. The nickel strings I've tried (Ernie Ball, D'Addario, etc.) just don't seem to last as long here in FL's humidity. I know that some people say the Blue Steels are too bright sounding, etc. but I've gotten some good tones out of 'em.

Re: Best Strings for an LP

Let's start out right off the bat with this: use .010-.046 gauge. Only wimps use .009's!

I like the DR strings. I use them on all my guitars now, hardtails and tremelos alike. They last long and don't break too often.

Re: Best Strings for an LP

These are the ones I play lately. The steel core makes em last longer, here anyway. When I lived in Halifax, everything dulled and died at the same time, due to the relative humidity of 96% most of the year round.

I used to love Nickels for the feel and the mellow tone, but Nickel wound steels feel similar, but have a little more bite to em.

Re: Best Strings for an LP

I'm a lately-turned-wimp.
Used 10's for 25 years tuned down a half step, now I'm in a band that gig regularly in standard tuning and I like EB nines on the LP's, and D'Addario 9.5's
on the PRS Santana III.

Anybody try those Eric Johnson signature GHS nickels? I might buy a set today. Not a huge GHS fan, but EJ has TONE coming out the ying yang.

Re: Best Strings for an LP

Daddrios .11 usually. But I just switched to Everly .11 strings recommended by the guitar tech after having a nut change and I'm liking it so far. 2 weeks and its still has that twang, no rust...

Re: Best Strings for an LP

Most people I know who play Les Pauls use 9's. All my electrics have 10's. I just like the sound and feel. I prefer D'Addairio's. They seem to be nice and consistent, last long and have good tone...m
