Re: Navigator Les Paul

Yeah...Well I think he wants $2500 for it. It seems like a great guitar however. But its creeping into the mid-higher end Gibby range. But it is a sweet one. Good luck Tux. Josh

Re: Navigator Les Paul

I've got a Lemondrop, NLP380ltd. Great player, well made, Honduran Mahagony, Honduran fretboard which, is like Brazillian but, stiffer with a really tight grain. Tight and focused sound with good sustain which, favors more modern tones. My R8 is a little more airey and woody, vintage sounding, both are great guitars though. The Navigator for Appetite For Destruction and the R8 for more Beano ERA, Kossoff tone. http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/othe...nlp380ltd.html

They are crafted by a single luthier, correct? By the way, beautiful custom.

Yup. A Navigator is usually build from blank-up in the ESP Custom Shop by a single luthier; the people chosen for the Navigator series team are ESP's top Custom Shop guys. They exclusively handle Navigator and Order Made (ESP Japan jargon for custom-ordered one-offs). The results are pretty awesome. It's no surprise a new 480-series N-LP will command a new price exceeding that of its Gibson counterparts.

Thanks for the bit of free advertisement, though now I'm strongly reconsidering keeping my Navi. It was hard to track one down used in great condition as that and I know that money troubles come and go.

Do yourself a favour and keep it then, kaz!!
That's the sort of guitar which is worth going a few months without beer or proper food

Wholly molly, look how low that action is, and how dark that board is... beautiful. I wish I had some free cash.

Re: Navigator Les Paul

Yup, super low action...partly due to how low those #214 frets are. Another (weird) but cool thing is the metal switchtip. Aside from Navigators, I've never seen that done. Then again, I've never played a vintage LPC, so I dunno how accurate that is or not, but it's cool.

Re: Navigator Les Paul

These are my plans for it, if I do keep it. DiMarzion Norton bridge, DiMarzio Air Norton neck. Dunlop straplocks and a set of gold-top witch-hat knobs. Not sure about the pointers lol.

I've never heard of a metal switch tip. A small detail, but really really cool. I would have never noticed that if you hadn't pointed it out. Thanks for sharing that.

Re: Navigator Les Paul

Yeah. Everything about these things are overbuilt. Big damn caps in the control cavity, super-neat (hand-routed) control cavity, superb binding... I definitely want another Navi. There's a N-LP-380LTD on Yahoo! Japan right now, kinda run through the ringer, lemondrop, that is absolutely gorgeous. Wish I could buy it.

Re: Navigator Les Paul

Maybe so.

I love this vid. A guy from ESP Craft House (ESP's direct retailer in Shibuya, where you can buy direct and even design your own customs in-person with luthiers, even choose the wood) explains about Navigator...and even compares it against what looks to be a 50s Burst conversion.

The neck is the Alnico V from seymore duncan, those are custom wound. Both are Duncan. But they sound awsome, like you i`m totaly blown away by the quality on these guitars.

Re: Navigator Les Paul

That is gorgeous! I loooove the patina on that guitar...it looks just the perfect median between dull and glossy... looks like it must be slick to the touch. A newer one too...it's got the post-2002 headstock inlay (Before that Navi LPCs had an inlay much more Gibsonesque...I much prefer this current one).

We need an official Navigator series thread...

Yup. Over there are myself, Llexi, and Hermz...and Shinji, who no longer posts to my knowledge. Shinji has a 480LTD, 480LTD/P (I think), and the rest of us have 480CTMs.

Edit: That also owes a lot to the ESP Message Boards being an English board FOR the English-speaking customers of ESP. I guarantee you we'd see more Navis on a more international board (though, Llexi is from the UK and Hermz AU and Shinji, JP). Just sayin'.

They're rare guitars in general though. ESP doesn't make many of them. Even in Japan, you can be in for a wait for a new one.

Like yourselfe i absolutly love my Navi.
When i got it i thought it was many of them around, but i have relised that it`s a rare bird.
Everything about this guitar is awsome, nothing has been overlooked, and i mean nothing. Every detail is spot on. And the neck.... Just perfect
I almost placed a bid on your guitar, i think those white custom has a killer look aswell. Be sure to hold on to it, you never know when someone like that comes up again. They are rare.
Like it`s said here we need a Navigator thread.

Shinji. I think word got back to his employer. He's fallen off all the boards.

Uh-huh. The numbers they make them in are by necessity, quite limited. Wood grade, time spent, marketability/price point they're definitely something that stays rare. The 80s ones even more so.

I'm keeping mine, I decided the other night.

Guy's definitely got some nice guitars. Other than that, don't know much about him or his situation.

I'm pretty sure Shinji works at E S P. He had so much inside info, I don't see how else he would know. Especially since E S P is so secretive.

He posted some stuff on japanaxe that was eyeopening, to say the least. If you "read between the lines" and pick up on what he was inferring in several posts, he had/has close ties to the company.

I did a couple vids of my Navi the other day. Nothing fancy, just through a SS multieffects to test some patches. Pardon the crappy playing.
