Silencerco threaded barrel for Glock 26 arrived.

My Silencerco threaded barrel for the Glock 26 arrived today. Fit was really tight, had to work the slide back and forth for a while before the action smoothed out. Will probably need a few hundred rounds to break in properly. Very pleased with the quality of the barrel. This is the Glock 26 with a Thompson Machine Poseidon 9mm suppressor.

Surprisingly, it holsters in my Galco SOB. The rounded ends of the Poseidon suppressor make drawing and holstering easy. Not much bigger than a full-size 1911.

Not in my America.

In NY, you can get a permit that allows carry in almost every other state (get a Florida or Utah permit). But there are no states that are allowed reciprocity with NY.

And we can forget about having 8 rounds in a mag, or having a suppressor.

Re: Silencerco threaded barrel for Glock 26 arrived.

The Poseidon is a really small specialty suppressor. It isn't built for maximum db reduction, it's built to avoid hearing damage. It's small, lightweight, has a single baffle, and uses a neoprene front wipe. One advantage to the front wipe is being able to carry the can "wet" without the medium running out the front of the suppressor. I use wire pulling gel instead of water.

I am crossing my fingers that suppressors get removed from the NFA registry

It's looking likely. There's also no reason for short-barreled rifles and shotguns to be regulated. The NFA was originally going to include handguns, but they were removed at the last minute because it was going to kill the bill. The reason SBRs and SBSs were regulated was to prevent people from circumventing the handgun restrictions by attaching a small "stock" to a handgun or by shortening a rifle or shotgun to pistol dimensions. When handguns were removed from the proposed legislation, there was no reason for restriction of rifle or shotgun size, but they just didn't bother to take them off too.

The NFA should be abolished entirely as well as any other infringement.

I see that Ruger offers a silencer as well. I always thought they were illegal.

A lot of people assume things are illegal that really aren't. I blame television cop shows. People see detectives talking about the law in NY or LA and think those laws are the norm. Most of the rest of the country has no gun registration whatsoever (unless you want something covered by Federal NFA regulations). In most places, if you're willing to do the Federal NFA paperwork, you can own silencers, machineguns, grenade launchers, artillery, tanks with live cannon, etc. The only real PITA is that if you want a machinegun, you have to buy one that was on the Federal registry before the cutoff in 1986, so they are expensive.

It will be a "New Country" shortly. Stats show gun free zones, states have actually MORE gun violence then places that are legally armed. I wouldnt hold my breath for bigger urban Areas like NYC , Cali, But Illinois might be up for serious change as they lead the country in gun violence despite being a gun free zone.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of LEOs wouldn't be aware of that fact. I would expect to be stopped and questioned (at the very least) if anyone got a good look at that bad boy on your hip.

If you can't hear the gun shots, how do you know when a shooter is coming?

I don't intend to let them get a good look. I'm accustomed to carrying a full-size 1911 in cooler weather. This is easy to cover up. I carry small-of-back, so it isn't like I've got a suppressor hanging down my leg. It's canted at an angle across my belt. It's quite a bit smaller than my LAR Grizzly, and I carried that monstrosity a few times right after I bought it.

Also, the average person wandering around probably can't even tell there's a can on it with it holstered.

On Long Island, you need to have a provable, VERY convincing story for a CCW permit. Along with that limited magazine and no suppressors of any kind. But isn't that suppression?

Good thing the criminals don't pay attention to the laws.

Don't want to come off as anti gun because I am not. I own long and short guns. But serious question here...why do you want a silencer and why would you want one on a concealed carry gun?

Gun fire is loud. Why not have the option of shooting firearms recreationally without the possible damage to your hearing?

Serious question? Why not enjoy a sport without possibly damaging your body? You don't play a guitar with the amp turned up wide open do you? It's the same thing with guns.

And how does a carry gun play into this at all? Is it more "dangerous"? Is it suddenly more "deadly"? No and no. What's the problem with any of it?

Re: Silencerco threaded barrel for Glock 26 arrived.

I understand the desire for using a suppressor on a defense weapon.

With recreational target shooting or training, one knows in advance that they will be exposed to gunfire and puts on hearing protection.

If, unfortunately, one has to use a firearm in self defense, there's probably no time to put on any kind of hearing protection. A shooter without hearing protection is sure to get some tinnitus and loose at least a bit of their hearing.

Nobody, especially musicians, wants permanent hearing loss. A small suppressor protects against that sort of permanent damage to the senses.

Scott and cooljuk covered it. Firing a handgun is loud. It's even worse in an enclosed space. Why should I have to accept hearing loss if I ever have to defend myself?

There's a lot of bad information about suppressors in the general public. I own around a dozen of them, all built for different purposes. A suppressed centerfire weapon is still loud. For instance, I have an AAC TiRant and a SilencerCo Osprey, which are currently the two quietest pistol suppressors on the market. An unsuppressed shot from one of my pistols is around 160db. These two best suppressors in the world will take that down to around 126db. That's as good as it gets. 126db is still freakin' loud, it just won't do permanent hearing damage.

The only suppressed guns that are actually quiet are .22LR when using subsonic ammunition. This actually sounds like a pellet gun, but it also performs like a pellet gun. I test fired my suppressed .22 pistol into a phone book a few times after I bought the suppressor. Subsonic .22LR will not even penetrate a quarter inch into the paper. I haven't seen the numbers, but I have read that subsonic .22LR is ballistically inferior to a kid's .177 pellet rifle. After shooting it into a phone book, I believe it.

Nice (even if it is on a Glock!)

Thinking about getting a holster made for this:

Just so I can put it on my hip when plinking. *Can you imagine trying to carry?

I persevered with a .22 rifle using sub-sonics and suppressed but it was only predictable out to about 20 metres and eventually I gave it away as a bad joke. I'm getting better results on rabbits using high velocity air rifles and kill about 300 a year from records kept. Shooting most often out to 50 metres.

The only problem I have is knock-down. They die but not straight away and I don't like that. Have to just get better and get head shots I suppose...perhaps with a new PCP airgun?

I am limited by proximity to neighbours unfortunately.
