Re: Goldtop Refin - Green Oxidation Normal?

I have used crestlite bronze powders for over 20 years as a sign painter. It looks to me by the "greening" pattern as if it was either not actual clear coats over a base of heavy pigment color...

Re: Gas at Christmas Tokai Ls 50 Incoming

Congrats. I have an '80 LS50, sunburst, three piece top, GT written in black in the neck pickup cavity. Bought it new when I passed thru Tokyo in '81. I think you'll be happy with yours.

Re: Les Paul Geometry 101

I put bridge exactly where I want it then mark the post holes and drill them.
Like so. Overkill maybe but it ends up right the first time.

Re: NGD, Bartlett Retrospec

Now I need to go find some bootleg plans online so I can get started on my "Replica" :naughty:
Seriously though, that is cool.

Re: Help me choose a PAF. Sheptone vs. Electric City Pickups

I have Sheptone Tributes in my burst replica and love them, but I got them in a sweet deal from another forum member so price played a big part in that choice.
Having said that, I picked Bill's...

Re: Replica vs. Historic

^^^ This is the best explanation of the difference between an Historic and a Replica. The Replica will feel Alive while the Historic kinda feels dead. I built 4 Les Pauls in the last year and a half...

Re: laney gc-30 watt all tube

I have a GC-30. It's a nice amp, but it's not a Death Metal Distortion machine. Don't know what to compare it to, it does not sound like any of my other amps. I turned down an offer of $400 for mine....

Re: Which tube in V1 for earlier break up tones?

not as easy as a tube swap but i had an amp tech put in a Pentode/Triode switch in my BD. cuts the power down in the output section so it's not as loud when the preamp starts to break up.

Re: my first ever "relic" guitar build (ok.. more like FUBAR'd!!)

It's 1/8" aluminum flat bar. Something thicker would not bend like that at the "star" point. Do it with that, you can bend it easy enough, polish it and rivet the pieces together. Use at least two...

Re: Where to spray without a booth?

^ This is how I do it too. Lacquer dries so fast, over spray is nothing like with other paints

Re: classic ernie ball rock n roll pure nickel wraps

Have only used these on my guitars for over ten years. Best part is lack of fret wear. Buy them by the case on ebay and really save.

Re: Buying vinyl fabric for head shell project

tubesandmore.com for tolex style amp covering material which I assume is what your looking for. At 54" wide, a yard of material should be enough but to be sure you could do a scale drawing of all the...

Re: szlash280z's long winded Pickup Winding thread

Great job.
Started doing my own last year with the Mojo kits. So good when you plug them in for the first time, now I'm hooked.

Re: I have some build questions.

Did my first builds at 4.4 degrees, didn't like how high the bridge and pickups are off the body. I now use 4.0 degrees and and like it much better, pickups are flush with the top of the rings and...

Re: Will this dye fade?

I could be mistaken but I don't think that's gonna fade very much. Not anything like the vintage style bursts done with the Aniline Dyes.
I use the StewMac tints when I don't EVER want it to fade....

Re: Mohawk Stringed Instrument Lacquer

I use this in the gallon cans. As for thinning, it's not really ready to spray out of the can, it's like most other lacquers.
I also use disposable plastic medicine dispensing cups and dip it out...

Re: Your opinions please

People's guitar designs are like their kids, even if they're ugly you have to tell the parents that they're cute.
Sorry, not me. I do think it's UGLY but go ahead and build it if you like it. What...
