Re: X3 Live
For some good starter patches, try downloading these--they will go to banks 17/18.
Welcome To Lincoln Brewster's Official Site Scroll down to the POD Patches area, and download his X3 patches. These were designed primarily for a Strat, but with a little tweaking on the amp you should be able to get some killer LP tones. BB

Re: X3 Live
You need a pilot's license with multi-engine and IFR ratings to run the X3 from the console. With the Gearbox software, it's a breeze. If you follow BB's advice above, as I did, you should be set.

Re: X3 Live
I'm gassing for an X3, myself. I have a buyer for my xt Live; I just need to find the right one on eBay.

Re: X3 Live
Hey, you seem to know your POD stuff. I bought a POD Studio GX last week, do I need that Gearbox software or is it only useful for the normal PODs?

Re: X3 Live
i got my x3 live up and running about a week ago, and my housemate stole it to play with.
he doesn't know how to use it, and he's a software engineer.

Re: X3 Live
Yeah, I got POD Farm with it along with RiffWorks and Ableton Live recording software. I'm downloading Gearbox at the moment but I don't know if I need it to work with my POD.

Re: X3 Live
It looks like the 'POD Farm' plug-in does pretty much the same thing.
Looks really cool! BB

Re: X3 Live
It is. It's not directly compatible with the X3 Live, but you can use it anyway as a plug-in to compatible recording software. I don't use it because I'm comfortable with Gearbox and am not always recording. But if you have Farm, Shifty, I don't think there's any need for Gearbox.

Re: X3 Live
Yeah, POD Farm is pretty cool. The only thing that bugs me is that I can't use many of the presets because I'd have to buy plug-ins with the required models.
I just installed Gearbox and it really seems to do the same as POD Farm. It just has a different layout. |

Re: X3 Live
I'll likely be getting one for recording and maybe playing live.
Should I go with the Live, the regular, or even Pro? The Pro seems extra pricey, but has some added recording in and outs. The other two, I'm still comparing. What do you folks think? Line 6 - POD Family - Guitar Multi Effects Processor

I had a "regular" and was very happy with it at home hooked to the PC, but taking it out, with or without my own amp, was a pain in the butt. The Live allows me to configure four presets (consisting of amp, cab, and pedals) and switch between them by kicking one of four footswitches, and kick the effects in and out with the other footswitches. Plus, it's got a built-in wah/volume pedal. Two or three presets are generally enough for me, so it covers all bases. I don't have to mess with any of the dials, save the Master Volume dial during setup/sound check.

The built in pedal on the live is a definite plus,as are extra inputs and outputs. Seems like the Live is the way to go as a Pod for all worlds. The Pro would be harder to use live, but does offer more ins and outs then the Live. I guess I'll see where the best deal lies, but I'm leaning to the Live. The live is streeting at $499 US and the Pro at $699 US. Seems like a wonder tool for recording.

Re: X3 Live
My pleasure. My X3 Live's got inputs for microphone, aux, and CD (in addition to two guitars); pdf, phones, direct, line (stereo and mono), and USB out. I don't even know what some of that stuff is! So, more than enough for me. I'm only using the phones, line (mono) and USB outs, and one guitar in 99% of the time.
