pro tools wont recognize new interface

i'm having trouble, i had an Avid M Box and one of the 1/4 inch slots broke so i returned it, decided to upgrade to a profire 2626-- no i finally have it but pro tools won't seem to recognize it-- i finally have it as the playback engine and setup (hardware) however, no sound is coming out of it (other than every other sound in my computer, besides pro tools? this never happened with my mbox) and it only has 2 inputs, still thinks it's an mbox, and when i play a session it plays through the laptop speakers.

I recroded my fingers snapping in logic, so it's read by that program, but i never use it.

so in short, help please

reset the I/O, now it's showing all the I/O but not doing a whole lot about it, tried to fire up the mic in input three, nothing, so i tried plugging a guitar in to one of the 1/4 inch slots, that worked-- however, none of the guitar plugins are sticking to it, so all i get is a clean sound, and it won't work with any plugins.

Tried opening an old session but i get no audio from anywhere when i hit play.

This is getting a bit frustrating

Re: pro tools wont recognize new interface

Are you direct monitoring an input and therefore not hearing the plugins?

Your old session likely needs the track/master outputs reassigned to the new interfaces outputs.

Direct monitoring is when you are passing an input directly to an output, avoiding the latency caused by going through a computer. It can be great for tracking, but would prevent you from hearing any processing your computer is doing, such as plugins and automation. You are likely able to activate/deactivate it both through ProTools and through the control panel for your audio interface, so you might want to check both. You can possibly activate/deactivate it in a per-track and global way through the PT options. It's been a number of versions since I worked in Tools so I'm probably not going to be much help with the Digi-specific details.

give me a min, I will post for you a screenshot of my software mixer for the 2626. You must have the sends/returns screwy.

I vaguely remember you need to install drivers before connecting. Are you up and running now?

ok. Uninstall, restart. Install, restart. Connect interface, restart. If no good, you can get some further help over at the DUC Pro Tools MP & M-Powered & M-Audio on Mac OS X - Avid Audio Forums

Re: pro tools wont recognize new interface

It has to be a routing issue. If protools didn't see the interface, you wouldn't get to the launch screen. Do you see green audio levels in your master fader in a session? How does that correspond to levels in the software mixer? Do you see audio there? Your monitors of course are connected to outs 1&2, yes? Do you get audio in headphones?

Call Digi. They should be able to walk you through it step by step. I used to be a dealer and, unless things have really changed, Digidesign was one of the more helpful companies concerning support to end users. They realize their clients are often musicians and not technicians.

Trash and rebuild digi databases? There is a tool for it in the digidesign folder.

Digidesign???? what's that? It's AVID now and they are an entirely different animal.

To the OP:Sounds like you need a tapemachine
