Broken Condenser?
PROBLEM SOLVED
I didn't notice that in Audacity, the "Input Device" had been changed to the built in mic of my laptop, and bypassing nearly half of my DAW. I feel like an idiot. ![]() __________________________________________________ _____________ I think I blew my mic. I read the other day (I can't find the article) about how with the +48V you need to use a condenser, you either should or shouldn't have it on when you plug the mic in. Because either would break the mic (I forget which one), if that's true. I haven't dropped it, or anything. I did risk it blowing a few weeks ago when I treated it as a dynamic and had it right up against the cab. I didn't know you had to treat condensers different. ![]() Here's a clip of how it sounds now. It's about 3 to 4'' away from the cabinet, and it's sounds like it's across the room, until the signal starts, I don't know, warping? ![]() http://soundcloud.com/leechavezmusic/mic-test And I'm 150% sure it's not backwards again. ![]() UPDATE: I tried recording my (acoustic/electric) acoustic via XLR into the Firefly 302, and it sounded the same as posted above. But, I the same setup, except everything going into my PA, and it sounded fine. I don't have a way to test the mic through the PA, since the PA doesn't have +48V (unless there's another way). So I'm afraid it's the Firefly. Any suggestions?

Re: Broken Condenser?
This might sound stupid, but is the cable any good? I have had my LDC's unplugged with the phantom power on and never had any trouble. The speakers don't like it thats for sure. What kind of mic you have there?

Re: Broken Condenser?
With condenser mic you need +48 phantom power on. Maybe there's something wrong with phantom power on your interface (some of them need external power supply because they can't deliver proper voltage using only FW/USB port. But this sound sample is really wired. Before you start messing with power and everything try rotate your mic about 180 degrees (this mic is Cardioid ,look for picture under, and I thing maybe you just place it wrong).
EDIT : Read your update, I miss it at first. I'm clueless, maybe try contact with Phonic tech support? |

Thanks man.I'm going to use my dad's volt meter tonight when he gets off work. The guy from customer support said to use one and test the mic end of the cable, coming out of the interface with the +48V running, and test between pins 1 and 2, and 1 and 3. It should be a little more or less. Like I said, I didn't do anything to where it would stop working. When I find out what it is, and if it's the interface, I don't know if I'll be happier or not. I hope I'm doing something wrong.
