Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

Les Paul Standard - Mint - - Toronto Musical Instruments For Sale - Kijiji Toronto

Can anyone tell which SD are these?
I wish they're Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro, the same PUs as in Slash USA Signature?

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

What weird is, the neck pickup only has "Duncan Designed" label instead of "Seymour Duncan" as on the bridge pickup.

I checked at SD website, it's Stag Mag for neck pickup, but could be wrong.

How is it compared to SD Alnico II Pro?

What about the neck PU?

Also note it's two bridge pickups.

I always thought a bridge PU won't fit on neck PU slot?

Anyway what are the effects using a bridge PU on the neck?

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

Assuming they are the same types (ie. both humbuckers) bridge pickups will fit in the neck position as there is no difference in the size of the pickups. (There are exceptions to that though. For example a Gibson 500T bobbin is a bit thicker than the 496R due to the winding, but either will still fit in either position.) If you put a bridge pickup in the neck position, you run the risk of having an unbalanced set with the neck being notably louder. Sometimes, a brighter bridge pickup is placed in the neck position to clean up the mud in that position. Generally, you put a higher output pickup in the bridge and a lower output in the neck. I've seen plenty of Dimarzio Super Distortions in the neck position though, so there is no hard and fast rule.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

Thanks for the detail explanation.

Is there anyway to tell which type of SD, bridge PU is?

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

Its hard to tell from the pic. You'd have to check the coil resistance and the magnet to get a better idea. It looks like it could be a JB, and I say that only because they are very popular for the bridge position and the wire color is right, but they aren't the only pickups using wire of that color. Without the resistance and magnet info, it is pretty difficult to guess as there is nothing I can see that is uniquely distinguishable about that pickup.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

So do you think this is a good buy?
I've been wanting an LP that has SD Alnico II Pro (or at least sound close to it) but have no knowledge on replacing PUs on my own.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

I would steer clear of that guitar unless you fancy a potential fixer-upper.

The person who has replaced those pickups has been pretty inexperienced and would make me wonder what else this guy has done!

The neck HB is not a stagmag - it is most likely a doner pickup from a budget guitar with eastern manufactured Duncan Designed buckers.

The Bridge is pukka however, most likely a JB as mentioned but no way of knowing for sure from these photos.

Caveat Emptor

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

Buy a guitar that you like, regardless of what pickups are in it. You can always swap pickups out later. You are obviously a Slash fan, so I understand why you are looking for those pickups, but you don't need those to sound like Slash. Your playing technique is MUCH more important. The pickups won't make you sound like Slash right off the bat.

Just to make this clear: the "Duncan Designed" is not an APH, not even an attempt at one.

Re: Are these Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro?

No way of telling what model that bridge pickup is. Unless it was custom ordered with the Seymour Duncan logo, its not an Alnico II Pro (or a 59 Model) since they both come standard with no logo. If you could possible get a pic of the back of the pickup, that would help.
