DiMarzio neck pickups

Hey, for those that use DiMarzio (or however the hell it's spelled)...

What's a good neck pickup? I'm halfway considering something that measures between 8.0 to 8.5k ohms resistance. I like A5 pups in the neck, but I'm not picky. It also needs 4 conductor wiring....

Re: DiMarzio neck pickups

Their PAF Pros are really nice, especially with a Super Distortion in the bridge or another similar high-output ceramic. They are Alnico 5 and measure around 8.4k. That and the regular PAF are the only 2 I have tried in the neck, of course the PAF is lower resistance than you want. I wish I had a sound demo but I change my DiMarzios out of my LP Studio for EMGs. Honestly, I might switch back since I already have 3 other EMG-equipped guitars, DiMarzio makes decent pickups.

Yeah, I haven't decided what to do as of yet. I'm lookin' for something to match that Zhanbucker bridge pup I've got. (I may ask to get a Woodbucker, but a Dimarzio pup is only 70 bucks so it's very tempting...)

We were thinking the same thing, Sentry. You got me thinking about it in your coil tapping post.

Re: DiMarzio neck pickups

PAF Pro is an excellent pickup.

Another one that shouldn't be overlooked is the Humbucker From Hell. If you don't use the neck pickup very often because it seems too muddy, you'd like this one.

What guitar are we talking about?

Re: DiMarzio neck pickups

The PAF Pro is one of my favorite neck pickups. I am not a fan of the Air Norton, though - too thin for my taste. The PAF Pro is just a little thicker.

Epi LP Standard. It's a good player and all...but I've got a killer handwound in another guitar I'd like to find a decent mate for. I'm lookin' for something I can apply a 500k push/pull to for the neck that won't cost me an arm and a leg. *I've also got some plans for the pickups that are in it now!*

Re: DiMarzio neck pickups

Another vote for the PAF Pro, I've used them for a long time probably 20 years and like them the best for my neck pup.

Re: DiMarzio neck pickups

The Humbucker from Hell is a excelent PAF-style pickup.Very clean, open and bright. I put the Superdistortion/From Hell combo in a Epi LP Standard....sounds great!!! The From Hell is one of the most beautiful clean sounds that I ever heard from a humbucker.....(I think in a Seymour Duncan Jazz as a reference).

I have a Air Norton on the neck position on my Ibanez RG and I like it more to play modern sounds. Air Norton sounds cool with hi-gain amps.

PAF Joe.

But you didn't specify what format? Single coil sized? or full humbucker?

The EJ Customs are also nice. as are the 36th anniversary PAFs.

For single coil sized hums, i like the Pro Track very much.

Humbucker *in the pictured Epi*

It will be matched against a killer A2 bridge pup that measured at 9.1 k ohms resistance.

Why so hot (esp with A5)? Do you do a lot of strumming or do you play a lot of fat single note lines?

If you really need to get a DM get a 36th Ani

otherwise if you can wait for a wind go get a Shed PAF Daddy or Shed Zep imo
