New Skatterbrane Clip for 2010 !!

First dirty, then clean at 1:49......Using the Epi SG through a Fender Princetone Reverb (RI), and a Lovepedal Eternity for the first part. YINBRANE'S baby!

Great tone and playing as always Frankie
Skatterbrane maybe you should have been at NAMM having Starrman demoing your pickups
Starrman have you tried the Yinbranes in a Hard Rock/light metal setting?

Starrman + Skatterbranes = Great Tone

Is it me? or do the Yinbanes sound softer and smoother than the Earthbranes?

I have a customer who thought my Yangbranes are too sweet! I mean WOW, I never heard that comment with my A5 magnets before. But setup and what guitar you put them in makes a huge difference. And the amp you use of course.

Yep, that's why I didn't opt for a Waterbrane set for my next oreder, remember?

Yes...The Yin's are smoother, they have A2 magnets....They don't bite as hard as the A5 models. But they are still very clear....I'd select them acording to the guitar...If your guitar is too bright, the Yin's or Metalbranes would be a good choice...Where the Yang"s have the harder edge, and does bite more, good for a guitar that you want more sparkle. Rod is most helpfull with advice...He could help you pick the right model for you and your situation.

That's not what I meant. I didn't mean that the Yinbranes are smoother than the Yangbranes. I meant the Yinbranes are smoother than the Waterbranes. Both are A2 magnets. My waterbranes seem to have a bit more top end compared to your yinbranes. (And that's in a chambered guitar, which is supposed to be a bit warmer)

Then again, it COULD be a few factors:
  1. Your SG is full mahogany, while my LP has a maple cap.
  2. Your OD could be different from mine, though I'm using a TS808HW, which is one of the smoothest ODs around.
  3. You could be using thicker strings, or nickel ones, since I'm on 10s but stainless steel strings.

So, I'm not sure which is which, and can't tell, unless you have a set of waterbranes in the same guitar for comparison, or I have a set of Yinbranes in the same guitar. Your Yinbranes sounds a bit smoother and creamier than the waterbranes.

Even on my demo clip, on the OD, the pickups have a snarl and a grit that doesn't seem to be heard on your clips.

Re: New Skatterbrane Clip for 2010 !!

I see....Well, you are right, there are many factors to the equation. I think the neck PU in the Benwahbrane's is the same as a Water.....pretty sure. I was playing through one 10 inch speaker, so typically that's a little on the bright side. I think the hands have a lot to do with it. My ears like to hear "smooth", so I adjust my touch to get that. The Lovepedal Eternity that I used is actually brighter then a Tube Screamer. So now, none of this really adds up ! I sound like me, and you like you....sense no make. haha

Hahahaha!!!! Yeah... the neck pup is the same in the ben-wabranes. BUT you're already saying it's a bit brighter, no? or are you saying the speakers played a part? The Lovepedal is brighter than a TS? Possible... But my settings have the tone knob on 3 o'clock! That's PLENTY bright! Hahahaha... If I roll it down, I might get the same smoothness as your clips though...

How did the Benwabrane neck compare to the yinbrane neck?

I didn't notice a big difference in the Water to the Yin.....Just a little. I would say the Water sounds somewhere in between the Yin and the Yang. And my volumes and tones are turned to 10 for this clip and all of my clips, except when I do "Women Tone ".......Sounds to me like you may just have a bright guitar.....The Lovepedal is fo sho brighter then a TS....I have 4 or 5 different TS's......some modded some not. Tip- if you pick lighter, it will sound smoother and brighter, When you strike the strings real hard, it get's mo bright...Everybody's hands sound different. I flip my guitar buddy's out, cause I grab anyone's guitar at a jam session or something, and still sound like I sound. (for better or worse)

That's the odd thing. The chambered standard actually "darkened" the waterbranes for me. The Slash Goldtop was the bright one.

Yeah... Everyone has a different touch. No doubt about that. My firends will make my guitar sound different from what I sound like when I play the same guitar. But tone is tone, and certain characteristics are still evident, though they are somewhat changed by the player.

Of course one major factor we are leaving out is your amp....what kind of speaker you have in it, how the dials are set, the size of the room, type of mic for the recording, and how far you have the mic from the amp !!!!!!!

Hypothetically, it's a 59'bassman amp, with a condenser mic set as far away as possible.

Hypothetically, because it's actually a PODXTLive.
