Question Got some good pickup sites?

Hi there! When i get a Les paul black beauty, ill maybe upgrade the pickups! As you may know, there are three pickups on this one. What kind of pickups should i use on the middle one? do i use the same ones that you use on the bridge or neck?
And do you have some good websites where you can buy picups for my guitar, and how do i know which ones who fits? And if i buy pickups that are black for example. Can i take the gold cover of my pickups and cover the new pickups with it?

Re: Got some good pickup sites?

I think any of the custom winders would be a good choice but are usually pretty expensive by anyone's standards. I can personally recommend Manlius pickups. Custom Handwound Guitar Pickups from Manlius Guitar Pickups They are outstanding.

This guy: HighOrderPickups.com Will custom wind some for you at a much lower price. He's not as high on customer service as others I've corresponded with but he seems willing to put a good product in your guitar.

There are always the DiMarzio's and the Duncans of the world. I doubt you can go too wrong with those. Guitar Center online or Musicians Friend would be a good source.

Here's a site: Humbuckers
Don't know anything about them but they have a decent selection.

If you're on a budget I can't recommend GFS pickups enough: Home They are, IMO, worthy of competition in the $60-$70 range but sell for half that. depending on your personal preferences I can whole heartedly recommend their Fat PAF, Vintage '59 or the Crunchy PAF as improvements over the stock Epi pickups.

And I have to point out that I'm selling a set of Gibson pickups from my Epiphone Elitist just in case you're interested:
For Sale: Elitist Pickups

Good luck and have fun.

For dirt cheap, GFS are good. For the same price, you can get some good used take-outs from guys here that have upgraded to boutique pickups. For good upgrades over stock pickups, Seymour Duncan has all the bases covered.

For top quality stuff, I use and recommend WB Pickups and Rio Grande pickups.

I got a black beauty and I'm putting in firewaters from WB. He's winding a custom middle pickup to match. Haven't got them in yet.

Re: Got some good pickup sites?

Thank you all! When i get money, ill consider all of your recomendations!
Just got my black beauty by the way! Wow, sounds really amazing!!! Much better than my 20$ electric guitar crap i bought from my friend
I one this problem with my older guitar, and the black beauty. I think it has nothing to do with the guitar though. When i play it on my Pod X3 live with a effect with overdrive/distortion, the sound gets pretty noisy! (when i play something, it seems like some strings maybe are vibrating just a little bit making noise). Do this happen to all, or are there a way to play to get less of that irritating background-noise? By the way, where are the wammy and wammy input:P?

Re: Got some good pickup sites?

Don't have experience with that gear. Many times the high gain settings on those units (and on real amps) make the background noise pretty silly. It could also be a problem with computers nearby or florescent lights.

I don't know for sure. What you describe doesn't seem like an unusual problem though.

Re: Got some good pickup sites?

I experimented a little and found out what caused the problem (not what are gonna solve it though).

Like if i play the tiny E string, and mute it, the string under the big E-string vibrates and makes sound! Is this normal? It happens to other strings to! What can i do? It cant be normal? A string i dont play on should not make noise on my headphones?

Re: Got some good pickup sites?

Rio Grandes are great! The BBQ/Texas are really thick and rich but you have to like bass and upper mids.

Motor City pickups are great as well....and Wade is a great guy to work with.
