Gibson T-tops or any other? please help to identify

Hi, I've bought 1974-75 gibson les paul custom and to my knowledge, previous owner replaced original pickups with those on pics

I put covers but there's "T" on top of them. Is that enough to be sure they are T-tops? If not what could they be? Thanks 4 help!!

Re: Gibson T-tops or any other? please help to identify

These would be T-Tops the April 80 could be otherwise (1980 was the last of the T-Tops) but if you saw Ts on the bobbins, then of course they are T-Tops......that is WHY they are called T-Tops!! Why the original owner replaced T-Tops with just another later set of T-Tops seems like a waste of energy, unless he had epoxy potted ones before? The neck is a Dirty Fingers version of the T-Top, so were you able to screw in the one row of pole screws enough to put the cover on properly?

I didn't put covers by myself, it was done by specialist. I like them byt I guess I shouldn't change them to any modern gibson pups?

Well it APPEARS that the cover was put on not all the way tight, to accomodate the second row of screws. If you like the sound, then no, I would not change them for newer Gibson pups, but there are newer Gibson Pickups I generally prefer to T-Tops, but I am not you. But I would think the dirty fingers would be more of a bridge pup.

Here is a link to the current Dirty Fingers:http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Division...rty%20Fingers/

Re: Gibson T-tops or any other? please help to identify

Sorry, I'm a little lost now - so which one is dirty fingers, with both adjustable rows or the other one? I have double adjustable on bridge now, the sound is better balanced now. Do you guys have any materials or old catalogs in PDF so I could read and find out a little bit more about those old Gibsons, that starts fascinating me...
I also have T top on my Carvin, can you tell me anything about it?

thanx!

Re: Gibson T-tops or any other? please help to identify

the TTop in your Carvin is the earlier model. I think they switched from stickers to the stamped plate in either '75 or '76. My '74 Custom has the stickered TTops. It has the braided lead though, I see yours doesn't.

The Dirty Fingers is the one with the double row of adjustable screws. From the link that Kink56 provided, it appears they are high output. Yours is the first one I've seen. Maybe Kink56 or someone else can provide us with a bit more history on this pickup.

I don'y know when plastic leads started but, I had a set of 72' patent stickers with the gibson engraved covers with plastic leads.
