Currently, I'm about to launch a new site which will be shedpickups.com but my previous shedpickups.co.uk is still up there.
Thanks for the kind comments and interest folks.

Re: ShedPickups
some words from Nugget:
My own love affair with all things guitar began some 24 years ago when I got my first guitar. I was gigging within a year using all manner of cheap guitars. In those days the cheap guitars were Gibsons and Fenders. Everyone with money wanted something else. Sometimes I’d go to a jam night were the good old boys would get up and play old guitars like mine and absolutely stun me with the tones they were getting. At the time I didn’t realise that those tones came from vintage pickups and great valve amps. So, like a lot of other kids I was duped into buying endless different guitars and pickups, pedals and gizmos. I must have spent thousands of pounds over the years on crap and still never got those tones that were there for the taking in the first guitars I had. Some years ago now, I was talking with a friend who was a carpenter about how neither of us would be able to carry on doing hard physical jobs for ever. I suggested that we get into making guitars. So we duly got started on a prototype. The big problem we had was cost. How could we cut costs and get into the market which was overflowing with cheap imports. We were already stripping the whole operation down to the bare bones and couldn’t see anyway to make a profit. So I came up with the idea of making the pickups. That was easier said than done as I had no idea how to go about it and no idea where to get the parts from. Things were very difficult before the internet opened up. Anyway, after hundreds of hours research I got hold of some magnet wire and asked a local luthier if he had any old pickups I could rewind. Then I had to make a winder. I had heard on the grapevine that some people used sowing machines, record players and so on as donor motors. My wife suggested I use her sewing machine. Little did she realise I would be cutting it in half with a grinder 10 minutes later…. After a few design issues I got a winder built and rewound those old bobbins which encouraged me to make my own from scratch. The first pickups I made very low powered but had sonic qualities that I hadn’t heard since those nights at the jams years before. It was my Urika moment. Sadly my friend gave up on the idea of making guitars but I continued with the pickups. I’m not big on marketing and spin which is why I called the business Shed Pickups. I didn’t want people to think my business was a huge faceless corporation churning out generic crap with a slick name and slicker advertising. My personal quest is to make the best pickups money can buy at competitive prices so I still operate as a one-man-band so as to keep consistency and quality while keeping overheads down. I’m developing new lines all the time but nothing goes into production until it’s been tested in the field for at least 2 years. I am currently testing my own vintage noiseless Strat pickups which are designed to be as noiseless as possible while retaining a true strat tone and they fit inside normal strat covers. Watch this space folks ! |

Re: ShedPickups
The new site is in no way ready. The sound samples are something I did to test out the recording gear rather than the pickups so although they are my pickups it's probably not a true representation of what I'm trying to demonstrate. I suppose, like all things, the new site's gonna be a bit bare for anything up to 6 months. Not enough hours in the day.

Re: ShedPickups
Me do some clips? I hardly think I could do Spence any great service by my clips. But I will do some, and try not to do him any injustice. As soon as they arrive I have a special little axe for them. They are on order but I told Spence no rush. I wish he lived here in the states, that way my phone bills wouldnt be as high. But then I'd probably bug him to death with my calling. I just like talking to him, there is some serious knowledege in his noggin. And NO I'm not pimpimg the man, I have no special inncentives from him or anything, I just think he's a great guy. ![]() Then again I think all you guys are great, Kevin, Will, Mark, Ive never recieved a bad product from anybody here. It just seems anymore I love to experiment.

Re: ShedPickups
Now I'm starting to hope they don't disappoint you!
Just got back from the London Guitar Show. Nothing much going on there. Can you imagine, as a customer going to a show where the sellers can't sell anything on the day? That's what it was like. Madness.

Re: ShedPickups
I doubt you have anything to worry about, if they sound anywhere close as sweet as those p-90s you made for that cat I will definatley be happy.

Can't wait to hear those soundclips Rev, I've just discovered from your pickup box that there's a boutique winder not far from where I live!
I knew Wales couldn't be just rain and rugby
