What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Just post the name (picture if you want) of your favorite pickup. Say why and what music you play with it.
Mine would probably be the Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro 2 . Just becai use it has a good clean tone I like and also sounds great with distortion.

Generally speaking : the original 6707 Peter Green set by Will Boggs ( no covers ) and my Dave Stephens VL PAF clone bridge p/u . Both ooze with tone. Different and both unique.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge and a Dimarzio 36th Anniversary in the bridge. I'm a major fan of the British Heavy Metal tone of the late 70's early 80's. Maiden, Priest, UFO, Saxon, Motorhead, early Scorpions, early Metallica, etc.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Over the Pond. Because...
When I play clean all I hear is me and the guitar (tough on the ego at first, but getting into it). When I play dirty, no matter how dirty I can still hear me through all the dirt. I can play too loud and no-one in the band complains. No-one in the audience complains that I'm too quiet (common problem before). I can "dig in" to the point that the guitar can talk as well as sing. No matter how much top I use, there is still an underlying warmth. Neck, bridge and tone controls cover a ridiculously wide tonal range. I use loads of effects, but none of them cloud the tone. But mostly because I feel like I've just joined the greatest band in the world when I use a guitar with them in. Just totally spoilt to have such a fantastic sound going on....you'd have to be there... ![]() ![]() They also look like PAFs - I mean they REALLY look like PAFs - but that's not among the major reasons I love them, it's just the sound. Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
emg-81. high output but not over-the-top. just enough. and a preamp in it that makes the signal crystal clear. so dreamy. especially with the gain turned up to 11....

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Dimarzio Super Distortion, I have been using them since 1978-79.
I like the harmonics and the massive sustain (plus it didn't hurt that one of my earliest influences Ace Frehley uses them still).

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Since my Gibson Les Paul Standard is the best sounding guitar i´ve ever had i´m gonna have to say that so far the Gibson Burstbucker Pro are my favourite pickups.
But from all the guitars with different kind of pickups i´ve tried the PAF oriented pickups has been the best sounding ones IMO

Dirty Fingers by far. Why? Try them and you'll know why.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
First, a disclaimer - I'm not a "guitar player' - I "play" at playing the guitar.
Each of my guitars has a different "voice", and depending upon how and what I'm feeling and the mood I'm in, I'll choose which guitar (and pickups) I'll "noodle around with". More-or-less the same as whether I'll put a CD of 'blues'; 'light rock'; 'classical'; 'jazz' or simply nothing at all on. |

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
In the bridge I like my SOB and in the neck I like my blackback. I know it seems lame to say pickups that I make but these are pickups I made for the voice in my head not for the public so I made them exactly how *I* wanted them to sound. Fortunately lots of other people were looking for the same sounds I was

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
DiMarzio Norton in the bridge position. On 10 and it can scream and mellows very nicely turned down. Very natural and open sounding, not compressed at all. Currently using it with a Fred in the neck and love the combo

Seymore Duncan Antiquity's
Very nice vintage PAF tone, sweet with great harmonics. Also a very nice double tone. Clean up real nice with a vol drop. Also very important to me, very easy to get. No bs or long wait time or not getting them at all. Got em 3 days after placeing my order. Jimmy

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
I just traded for my third set of WB's, a set of the 6707 Limited Greens. Since none of these were ordered from WB directly, I have not had to deal with the, EHEM! It's the only way to fly!
Liam that is one gorgeous guitar!!! |

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Hard to nail down just one.
Love my Shed PAF Daddy's, I don't think I'll ever pull the bridge one back out of my trusty old Deluxe. Love the Seth Lover in my Dot. The WB Hab 2 prototype I've got in my Studio is one hell of a fine sounding pickup. I've come to really love the Duncan Distortion, too. Much more versatile than people give them credit for.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Dimarzio D-Activator (Bridge)
Dimarzio Humbucker From Hell (neck) All the gain, harmonics and HI-FI tone I love from active pickups but with all the great passive pickup attributes like the guitar wood's tone coming through more, added headroom and picking dynamics and thick tone. It's hard to go back to actives after playing the D-Activator. As for the HFH, It has all the attributes I want from a neck pickup: Tons of pick attack, bright muddyless tone with an added smoothness with so much yummy goodness!
