Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Another Seth Lover fan here! I've played a variety of HB's and no one pickup will sound best in every guitar, but I've yet to play a guitar with SD Seth Lover's that I didn't like! Here's a set w/ gold covers in my 555

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
At the mom using WB 67-07's VTPH and Throbak SLE-101 LTD's in my guitars. Can't complain about either at all. One day would like to try the WB 67-07 PG's, OTPG - AND more Throbak sets! I just need more guitars...

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
A genuine dead heat between OTPG and Shed Paf Daddy's....
I have a set of Paf Daddys in a Tokai LS320 and it nails the solo tone in Alright Now....a crazy thing to say considering I don't play a Marshall, didn't record it throught the same desk and I ain't Kossoff but that to me defines PAF tone.....and the variety of sounds you can get out of using the volumes and tones just as Paul did back in the day. OTPG's in a LP replica.......I agree with Liam.....I can't believe that a pickup can sound so sweet clean and roar with dirt whilst still being "me"....it has a "clean" distortion which is addictive.....I have a set in a Tokai 335 and they have transformed that guitar. I am totally happy with both and I also have single coils from both winders and they are staying in their rerspective guitars! |

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
I dunno...TBH I really like having a different pickup config in every single one of my guitars...gives 'em more personality.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
I really can't decide between my WB Habanero's or the Firewaters. Both sets are better than anything I have used in the past.
If I had more guitars I would love to try some WB VTP'S, hot Bare knuckles, probably his Nailbombs and would also love to try some of Skatterbranes PAF style pickups. So much great choice out there today.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
DiMarzio Super Distortion. I play alot of the old 70's-80's Metal. U.F.O., Saxon, Motorhead, Priest, Maiden, Ace era KISS, etc. Along with Dokken\Lynch\Lynchmob, early Crue, Dio, Accept, Early John Sykes era Whitesnake, Paul Gilbert, Etc. Finally early thrash as in the real Metallica (first 3 records), Exodus, Slayer, some Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament. I do play a lot of bues and blues rock but this pup works very well for me in that respect also.
This along with Seymours first pickup were the only two aftermarket pickups that came out in the early 70's and everybody was using one or the other to overdrive the front end of their amp further into distortion. There was a hell of a lot of important music made using these two pups. Just freakin' realized I've already answered to this post. Oh well, gives an explanation of my musical tastes; or lack thereof!

Me too, Adrian and Dave are my main influences. Throw in some Lynch, Gilbert, Michael Schenker, Angus and John Sykes kinda makes up my mishmash of styles. Here's my modded out Strats:

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Someone should come up with a Boutique Pickup Name Generator. It would take two words from a dictionary, misspell one or both in culturally recognized ways, and combine them together into a single name. It would be fun to randomly generate names and then speculate on what the pickups would sound like given the names.
![]() What would a RippyrVayne sound like? Or a JunkyardDawg? Or a PhlutterKrunch? Or a PinkUnikorne?

I agree with someone who said the Gibson Burstbuckers as being very underrated. They are fantastic. May not be my favorites, but are up there with the best.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Gotta say that the Burstbuckers didn't hold any water with the sets of boutiques I have tried. My new favourite is the Guitarforce Lord of the Blues, then Dr. V's and last of the boutiques is WCR Darkbursts.

Have to agree, the Guitarforce brand is great! Another mention should be Motor City - his pickups are amazing, love the Torque.
Jonesy, have you tried the Rio Grande BBQ set? |

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Early 70s T tops for the neck position. I've only owned a couple of Les Pauls but have had other guitars, and for the neck position of an LP (or SG) I haven't been happier with anything else. They sound full without getting too bassy, can be clean and articulate or overdrive with ease. I've been happy with the Duncan Custom and Distortion models in the bridge for their power, but they do lack a bit of clarity when driven so I don't have a favorite set yet.
Other favorite pickup? EMG Precision pickup. Well, I am a bassist!

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
+1 on that. I have tried the Seth Lover, '57 Classic, 498T & 490R, and Lollar Imperial High wind and to me the best sounding out of all of them are the Burstbucker 1 & 2 combination in my '09 R8. Extremely articular and clear and has plenty of harmonics in it. Mine doesn't squeal like some people's and I do play loud. I don't know if I just got a good set or what but I really like these pickups and can't imagine anything just blowing these away. Maybe a slight improvement but that's it.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Much as I love the pickups I got from Stan, my current fav is one I got from Zhang. Nice thick sound and that guitar seems to be more present in the mix. Likes to keep me on my toes with the amount of gain I'm using sometimes but it sounds great.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Haven't tried many humbuckers (Gibson Classic 57', Dimarzio PAF Pro, Ibanez ACH1, ACH2, QM1, QM2... stock Aria pro II 80' Pus..) lest the boutique ones.
So far, on an overall allround usage, the Greco Screamin 82 (3 Pus), and the Greco U2000 (3 PUs), both with a magnet change to Alnico III > clear PUs, vintage sound without excesive focus on mids, great with distorsion (soft cream clear to...), slight PAF twang but closer to an even wound PU. Love the out of phase sound I get... And, as well, the spicy HighOrderPickup set of 3PUs I bought (Alnico II Asymmetric: 8,4 8,4 7,9), delicious PAF like sound with tons of warmth. Good day there Pinmusica |

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Best I've tried myself are the stock post PAF, pre-Ttop pickups in my '66 ES-335. They're not the loudest humbuckers out there, but the warmth, clarity and depth of tone for me sets some kind of standard. The neck is clear enough to stand out at higher volumes, and the bridge manages to sting in a warm kinda way. Great pickups.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
Wolfetone Marshallheads!
MEAN, RUTHLESS, AGGRESSIVE, ANGRY yet tamable and clear. It's nice and bright and open and has a really cool high end that sings, but not overdoing it. Very articulate and harmonically rich. Pick attack really changes the sound. Perfect for Classic rock (60's, 70's, 80's), Hard Rock (Any era), and some Metal except for like metalcore or death metal. (I don't play a lot of metal though. Mostly a little Ozzy) It even does blues with a little roll off volume and tone or coil-split.

Re: What is YOUR favorite humbucker and why?!
I have never modded any of my guitars, and all 4 have different humbuckers as standard. T-tops in my 70 Les Paul, Burstbucker 1 & 2 in my 07 R9, Duncan Alnico II Pros in my Slash USA Sig, and mini-hums in my SG Special. Each have their own voice and I like them all, but I would like to try some Duncan Pearly Gates or Antiquities, or maybe the Seth Lovers.
