Seymour Duncan Antiquity

These models are made to look and sound like a well-worn '50s humbucker as originally designed by Seth E. Lover. The pickups are built to traditional standards with particular character and DC resistance, just like the originals. Aged nickel silver covers and poles. The pickup is not wax potted, which retains the vintage sound and appearance.

Each pickup is signed on the magnet and bottom plate to guarantee you are getting an original Seymour W. Duncan Antiquity™. Like the neck position model, the bridge position humbucker is a faithful replica of the great sounding patent applied for humbuckers that Seth E. Lover designed in 1955. The bridge pickup is wound a little hotter and better balanced for its position. The pickup is not wax potted to retain the sound and appearance of the originals. Hookup wire includes the classic braided push back cloth braid wire.

Has anyone tried these ?

Re: Seymour Duncan Antiquity

They are crazy expensive! I'd like to try them but I'm one of those guys that has a problem with buying 'made to look old' stuff.

Guys who age their guitars and do it well are pure genius.... but personally I'd never buy a new guitar and age it any other way than the natural way.

To me its like buying jeans that already have holes in em! Crazy talk!

The sh55 is one of my favorite Duncan humbuckers though... so if its anything like that I'm sure they sound stellar!

Re: Seymour Duncan Antiquity

I've tried them and liked them.

I prefer humbuckers that are not wax potted with a lower gauss level in the magnet.

Re: Seymour Duncan Antiquity

From what I understand, the very first Antiquities were handwound but demand was so great that they are now just aged versions of standard pickups.
They are expensive but handwound pickups are labour intensive as is the ageing process. Sometimes you just have to accept that if you want the tone and the look you'll just have to pay someone a fair price for their efforts.

Re: Seymour Duncan Antiquity

I suspect they are exactly the same thing now with the aging thrown in and maybe different magnets. BTW, I have repaired stacks of Seth Lovers where the bobbins are out of phase with each other from new. As for the covers, post a pic. I don't have one in my shop to look at.

Re: Seymour Duncan Antiquity

I'm playing with a neck and bridge antiquity set now. Awesome. The bridge pup came with the polepieces screwed *way* ass out of the pickup (like almost the entire top knob of the screw was above the cover). It was blistering. I dropped it back to lately to flush with the cover and still all is good. The polepiece adjustment is very sensitive. I had the bb 1 and 2 stock, have tried the seth neck and bridge and most lately the SD alnico II pro neck and bridge set, and am back to the antiquities. They cook in my setup

they are a little bit over 400 over here i got them in a second hand epi LP which i bought for i think about 200, it was about five years ago so my memory isn’t exact.

the antiquities are perfect for my style of playing what I’m wondering is what the specs of the Gibson 57 classic are.
