I always like the 60 as a neck pickup. My favorite EMG combo is and 85 in the bridge and a 60 in the neck. Good stuff!

Make that a 85X, 60A and it gets even cooler...

I've wanted to try a 60A, but what's an 85X?

Supposed to sound more passive, natural and open, it's essentially EMGs answer to the SD blackouts.
I haven't heard them yet, but it sounds like a damn good idea...

Eh, I'll stick with the 81/85 combo. Can't see spending extra money for a "slightly" better tone on the neck.

BTW: Does anyone out there make high quality 25k pots? Also, how much different is there between a .01 and a .015 capacitor?

all i spent was $2 to ship the 85 to canada to swap it.

i wondered about the pots as well.

probably a huge difference in the caps considering you can usually hear a difference between a .15 and a .22

I'm not in the same position. If I wanted the 60, I'd have to buy it outright and I doubt I could simply sell one EMG pickup vs. a set.

You're probably right about the caps. Sad thing...I can't find anything that low in value that's worth a damn.

Re: swapped out my EMG85 for an EMG60

Pretty significant difference between .015's and .01's. it's perfect as a neck (.01) and bridge (.015) combo if you want more range on your tone control, and less "mud" and more clarity.

I always thought the 85 was a really nice pickup. I wonder how the new 85X will fare: sounds really promising.

Re: swapped out my EMG85 for an EMG60

i was trying to buy just a 60 because i wanted to also try the 85 in the bridge to compare it to the 81, but swapping was the easiest way right now.

AllParts sells 25 K pots. I don't know if they are any better then the stock EMG's. I have never had any problems with the stock pots.

I'm not a fan of allparts.

The folks at EMG actually reccommended this specific site to me...

Guitar Parts and Accessories by GuitarPartsDepot

They have all of the accessories and the full selection of EMG stuff, but the pots are always those tiny cheapies.
