EMG's in LP's

Must sound like a crime, but curious as to how many have put em in and actually left em in.?

I put em in my 82 custom antique white 3yrs ago and am thinking about going back to original. These are specially begged from EMG. Gold Plated.
Took 3 months to finally get em to let go of them. But I told myself if a EMG was going in it was going to match the rest of the guitar. I'll post some pics as soon as I can get them uploaded. OH yeah forgot to mention I'm a south paul player. This was, and is my first Les Paul.

85 in the bridge
81 in the neck.

EMG's in all but 2 guitars and I guess I'm not rocking as hard as I use to and am toning my style down a bit. Hard Rock for the past 20 some odd yrs. I guess some just tone down after so many yrs.

I still am keeping the emg's in my ibanezes , but I don't get the paul out too often and when I do I find myself missing the Pauls true tone.

Re: EMG's in LP's

.

I think EMG's are great pick-ups, for a lot of different things. But, I definitely get what you mean by missing the original tone. It is something I have grown to love. I might not have my nice LP anymore, but I am glad I got my cheap one still for the sake of having the LP bridge pick-up tone when I want it.

When I think of what a Les Paul is supposed to sound like... That is what I think of... Clean, neck position, and a little reverb... That is one of my favorite configurations.

I am the EMG guy here. Artist/Endorsee/sales/service. I use the 81/89 in my guitars, and the Jazz bass sets in my custom 8 string basses. The 89 is basically an 85 that has the coil split option with a push/pull pot. I can get heavy sounds out of these, or nice and clean. Very versatile. But for the heavy duty stuff, no pickup sounds as intense as active EMG's.

Re: EMG's in LP's

I did the EMG treatment to this 77 Custom. The pickups that were there when I got it sounded terrible to me (a Duncan Super Distortion at the bridge, I forget what was at the neck) and it constantly buzzed. I've got several EMG equipped guitars and had a pretty good idea of what to expect when I did it. I also have a few other Les Pauls with stock pickups (some T-tops and Burst Bucker Pros), so it's not as if I'm missing anything. They fit with the different styles of music I play.

I'm not a fan of the 81 at the neck. I've got a few ESP signature guitars with the 81 that I won't change, but I'm an 81/60 combo guy all the way.

Re: EMG's in LP's

Wildestar are you using the 89 in the neck position?
I never thought about the 89's but then again would EMG hook me up with a gold top 89???

RB.

Yes, I use the 89 in the neck. I get some really nice clean sounds in the single coil mode.
I can ask about the gold option for you. EMG will have a few new pickups coming in 2008... so stay tuned!

You put in the pickups that sound right for you. What is wrong with that?

Re: EMG's in LP's

There is nothing wrong with EMG's. They are consistant, clear, powerful and noiseless, low resistance and all around a very useful pickup. I had them in all of my guitars for a long time. I only got more into vintage tones recently and tossed them, but I will be buying another set in the near future. They are just so useful its hard not to have a guitar loaded with them ready to go. Especially while recording.

I had a set of the Chrome 25th anniversary 81's around here somewhere. They may have gotten sold, but they were my favorite to look at.

Re: EMG's in LP's

Hopefully I've still got em somewhere. I picked them out of a pawnshop special RG270 or something *super low end RG*. Got the guitar for $70 bucks. Took the EMG's out and threw it away. Haha

Oh and for the record, Zakk Wylde doesn't 'blow'. He's a little tasteless nowadays, but the man is a guitar god none-the-less. Listen to the Pride and Glory stuff, or early Black Label for some genius shredding.

Also shredding on a LEs Paul is no easy task.

Thats a damn good deal! Those picks were around $275.00 for the set. they are both model 81's. Not sure why they did it that way, but thats the way they did it. I think they sound a bit different with the chrome covers. I had them in my LP, but I took them out and put them in my ESP. I put regular black 81/89 back into the LP.

Yeah, in the right guitar, the white EMGs look killer! This is a friend's:

But for me, I wish EMGs were available with chrome, nickel and gold covers (without having to do the mod yourself).

are u serious he doesnt blow at all, like u said loki, he is a lil tasteless but hay he is a god and one of the best. He is also one of the nicest metal playing, beer guzzling guitarist out there, just look at some of the stuff he does for the lil kids. he plays concerts for charity, he gives kids in musik shops the choice of wat ever guitar they want no matter the price, and his love for fallen brother dime is emense and will never b beat.

VIVA LA WYLDE!!!!
