LP Custom Before and After Gregwind Install!! Clips and Pics
Hey Everyone,
Ok so I made another pilgrimage to BCR Music & Sound yesterday to visit Uncle Greg and get some Gold WB Greggies installed in my '07 custom. Now when I got there he was just stringin' up a '55 Les Paul Junior for a customer who's had it since it was NEW. This guitar was super light and awesomely checked and battered as you would expect a main player of that age to be. It was very sweet to say the least. ![]() Now Greg of course is doing everything in the world possible to talk this guy out of this guitar but he wouldn't budge and I dont blame him. Greg fired it up the through the new Marshall JVM combo. First of all no matter what he did he couldn't find a bad tone. Every setting with the amp every twist of the knob was tonal heaven. I've heard his junior before and it sounds unreal but it was with the band so drums bass vox and everything was going. This junior was being played by a skilled professional 4 feet from me and holy shit words can't describe the sound. It was just IT! When he reads this hopefully he will post up a pic of the that '55 junior. Now that Greg has proceeded to make everyone in the store want to give up playing. ![]() It was my custom's turn to be cracked open. Sadly I don't have any pics of this work being done. I forgot my camera. But I do have some clips of before and after and some pics of the new pups in my guitar which I lovingly call "The Butcher". Greg changed the pups, and caps and did the played in mod to the neck to remove the "sticky" feeling, and then he did a complete set up which improved the action and playability 100%. ![]() Before: ![]() After: ![]() The gold covers Will uses looked way more like a Gold PAF cover then the stock ones. They are more flat on the top and I think they look great. So now the question is how does it sound? Ok I know clips aren't always the best for hearing a difference but this is as close as it gets for me. I find that the stock custom pups are scooped in the mids and have a lot of lows which muddy up the sound when using gain. Could be good for stoner rock but doesnt cut through a mix very well. The neck pickup distorted is just mud. The bridge pup is nice but again not as punchy or cutting as the Gregwinds. Soooo.... Check out the clips I've posted up on sound click and hear the comparison yourself to see what you think: SoundClick artist: decoy205 - page with MP3 music downloads Same guitar, same amp, same amp settings, reverb from the amp, same mic pre no eq in the mix just from the amp, amp reverb, only pups changed. I just have to say that Old Junior kinda put my guitar to shame. So I'm glad I dont have comparisons with THAT guitar! Thanks a lot Greg! BTW I got some Les Paul Coasters and a Mousepad too. I thought the coasters were hilarious. Awesome!![]()

What, this old junker?
![]() Yes, I cried when it left. Yes, the guy that put a tunamatic on it in 1972 is dead. Yes, it was cool to have Decoy and the lovely wife make the 3+ hr trip (in either direction!) to come hang with us. Good folks, these. Decoy, you are welcome ANY DAMN TIME you wanna come down, as long as you do not come without the wife. Oh, and the pic of Decoy playing the guitar with the Viking helmet on somehow didn't happen, but NEXT TIME.......

Very cool, great clips Decoy. The WB bridge pickup is incredible sounding, but the difference between the stock neck and the Gregwind is just astonishing.
An incredible set of pickups on a beautiful guitar. I always cry a bit inside though, when I see tune-o-matics (or worse, neck pickups,) on old LP Jrs. Just use a PIgtail people. Heck, even in the 70's there were Bad-Ass Replacements! (a little LP Jr. joke, there.)

Re: LP Custom Before and After Gregwind Install!! Clips and Pics
Using a Vox AD50VT direct into pro tools on the UK 80's setting. (which is like a jcm 800) It's my practice amp. I'm going to eventually buy another amp. My full rig is a 5150 and Bogner cab but I cant really crank that at home!
