Guitarforce Pickups Have Arrived...

Well, my Guitarforce Lord of the Blues humbuckers arrived a couple of days ago, and a few days before that, my Ceriatone Overtone Special head arrived.

For the first time this week, I have all day tomorrow to myself to get lost in tone Nirvana. It's going to be one helluva day....

I figure that I'm either going to sound really good tomorrow, or I'll know just how much more practice I need, cause the gear surely won't be lacking...

BTW: The LOTB humbuckers are going in the guitar in my avatar picture. It's an Agile with a solid mahogany body and neck with a 3/4" maple top on the body. It's got beautiful acoustic tone, so I'm expecting some sweet PAF type tone with the new pickups.

+1 for Kevin @ GuitarForce!!!

I have a set of LOTB's in my '05 DesertBurst....I love the way they sound...they just outshine the BurstBucker 1&2 set I had by so much it's just amazing...can't say enough good stuff about 'em....I also have a set of Rebel 1's in my Cherry Birdseye...Love them too...it's really hard to decide which guitar to play more...Have fun this weekend breakin' em in!!!

Re: Guitarforce Pickups Have Arrived...

So I've decided to try some Guitarforce pickups. Now if I could only make up my mind on which ones. I have listened to the clips from Weldarr and they sound good but I was looking for more clips to make a final decision. How about it Bloozcat? Got anything recorded yet?

Re: Guitarforce Pickups Have Arrived...

Those are great clips, and i really enjoy the tone.
I hope to get some Guitar Force pickups soon, I'm just not sure which model.
I have a project guitar that I think will be a real tone monster with some of Kevin Taylor's pickups in it.

Re: Guitarforce Pickups Have Arrived...

Well, I finally got the LOTB pickups installed, and all I can say is...

HOLY CRAP...!

These pickups are beautiful. Everything that's said in the description on the website is true. They go from a smooth edge of distortion sweetness for blues, to a warm grind for classic rock, to a sharp, biting attack for harder rock...but without a hint of ice pick. I really like the open airy-ness of A4 magnets. The tone they produce is tight, clear, and articulate, with great note definition in single notes or chords. These pickups really take advantage of those properties. They just sound so dynamic like they're alive...

I've just begun experimenting with them, and at the same time I'm breaking in a new amp (Ceriatone Overtone Special). Between the two, there is a lot of tonal territory to explore. One thing's certain about the amp - and these pickups only compliment it - is that every note, every nuance, every subtley to your playing is picked up by these pickups and just blooms through this amp. Of course, that includes every mistake as well, but that only forces you to concentrate more and become a better player.

For the record, when installing the pickups, I also replaced the cheap poly caps (.047mf's) with a pair of NOS Goodall Vitamin Q .047mf's. They are a perfect complement to these pickups. I thought they might be a little dark, but not so at all. They really work well with these pickups. The wiring in the guitar is surprisingly good. High grade shielded wire from selector switch to control cavity/output jack, vintage style cloth covered hook-up wire in the control cavity, 50's style wiring scheme. The pots are large (quarter size) Alphas, which swell very evenly. Since I did not completely decouple them from the wiring when installing the pickups, I did not get a resistance reading on them. Regardless, they work quite well, so no issue there.

Kevin, you do a great job with these pickups. I highly recommend them!

As a side: I'm not really equiped to do any recordings right now. The computer's on one end of the house, my music room on the other. Perhaps someday soon.

Very nice! I'm hoping to try out a set myself soon. Though the rebel 1's are also tempting...

Re: Guitarforce Pickups Have Arrived...

might have to try a Erupter/LOTB or Erupter/Rebel 1 combo from all the good things I've heard...
