First, I put one in the neck slot on my (modded) 1960 Junior, so I could compare it with the early Pat Sticker pup that is normally loaded there, and it was in-frigging-credible... maybe an even warmer tone than the Pat Sticker, and I totally dig that pup. I ran it through my 1958 Fender Deluxe, bridged on 10. I also tried that setup through my Mesa Studio Pre and one of my modded Laney AOR Pro-Lead 50-watters, where it just sang.

Then I loaded the pair into my 1989 Tokai Love Rock, where they just smoked the supposedly "booteek" pickups I had in it. I only ran the Love Rock through the Laney... I was anxious to swap 'em again.

Finally, I loaded the set into one of my beloved Burny Les Paul Black Beauty Customs. Oh. My. God. I am a huge fan of the VH-1 pickups in the early-mid 80's Burnys, but they're un-potted and very difficult to tame. The 67-07's had all the grit, punch and articulation of the VH-1s, but were a little tighter, more focused... and because Will potted my set, I had no squeal. I ran the Burny through everything in my studio, I think. Modded Laney 50 and 100-watters, The '58 Deluxe, my 1972 Fender Twin, Mesa Studio Preamp, Mesa Bottle Rocket... It was smokin' tone through every one of them.

I did some recording, but haven't even listened to it yet. I haven't decided where the 67-07's are going to take up permanent residence yet (I may need to buy another set - not sure I can live with only one), but I have a feeling they're going to see a lot of action -- I can't wait to try them through my live rig -- figures that this is the first weekend I've had off in like 3 months. Argh. Oh well... in 2 weeks Ima let these things loose on the world. Further tone reports to follow.

some NEW soundclips

Not mine of course, but I had the pleasure of listening to some fine work by some guys that you might know, putting these clips up on the WB pickups site.

WB Soundclips

The ones from John, Rich, and Dean are all newly added. Poke around and have a listen, lots of different tones going on there.

Re: Will Boggs Custom Pickups are Truly Custom

Hey Will, what did you decide about offering these as a standard model.I'd be really interested in a set of these.I'm really into Skynyrd,Blackfoot,Molly Hatchett,MTB,and these would be exactly what I'm looking for.

Re: Will Boggs Custom Pickups are Truly Custom

340 swinger, Thanks for helping convince Will to make these a standard model, you will be forever happy with the tone these monsters make.
I have now three Reissue Les Pauls, one R8 and two R9's, I have removed other aftermarket pups, sold em (goodriddens)and challenged Will in developing this superior Southern Tone that IMO nails the sound of the 1970's early 80's bands that made Stonewall Jackson and Robert E Lee roll over. All my Les Pauls now have Will Boggs Custom Pickups installed and every where I play people want to know about these guitars, the tone is articulate, and the guitars bloom when pushed by a tube amplifier. The beauty is that you can control your guitar with these pups with your associated volume and tone controls and choose your weapon, So be careful with WB you will get more than you ask for.
Will, make 340Swinger 's day and wind em a set.

Re: Will Boggs Custom Pickups are Truly Custom

Jeff, These pickups are really starting to sound good enough for the mass market! You have started something. About 4 phone calls today about the H & G's.

340Swinger, you are more than welcomed to order them.

Dave, I know you want them! They scream Dirty South! Hey Dave, call me in the morning if you can about your question yesterday...

Will

Re: 67-07's Now Available!

Got my set of 67-07 VTPs yesterday that Will popped DMC Super Real PAFF covers on. All I'm going to say is god damn. Will's magic winding and the magic vintage wire is just that good. If I gave my impression of these pickups, I'd sound like a broken record in this thread. Just awesome. These pickups are the epitome of PAFness.

Re: Will Boggs Custom Pickups are Truly Custom

Will, I question the "starting to sound good". that mut be a thought from somewhere else,
Gentlemen, These "dirty southern" pickups smoked out of the box, So, Honest to goodness, please, let these other so called pick up builders "copiers of the vintage tone, catch a train" directly to WB and see what this is all about.
You have set a new level with these "Honest to goodness" wind that has captured a time in history, as the reverend once siad, aint no thang like a tone thang.
Install these and check out the THANG, some real rock and roll, ZZ Top first album, nails it!!!!!
Grinderswitch (drew Lombar) YES YES YES
MTB/ Toy Caldwell (where we all Belong)
Allman, Live @ the fillmore
Betts ( betset ??????????????????????????? beware)
O'K. Nuff said, I would "Bett" on these WB's>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Ive gotem and these took the place of some big money PUPS, True testimonial based on TONE$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
So Honest to Goodness, these PUPS are the @*^%.

I know...after I got my vintage wires, I'm trying to figure out what to do with my double creme EdA Timbuckers. Not sure whether I'm going to sell them or try to trade for something else.

Hey guys thanks! Tone is what it's all about. No B/S, just tone! Jeff, those H&G Habaneros are pretty cool too. We are going to get them on the web site soon. But if anybody wants to order the H&G's and the H&G Habaneros. Email me at info@wbpickups.com.

Yes sir! As for how they compare between the VTPH's and Firewaters? The Habaneros are a bit hotter than the VTPH's and no where as near hot as the Firewaters. These are more of a classic hot pickup with a slight earlier breakup than the VTP's and The Rev's.
