Re: WD PU Holy Shit !!!WILL IS THE MAN!!!!

You mean WB Pickups, right?

I have two sets and they sound great. Just got my 67-07 Vintage Wire HB's which just came out, and I have had another set of his VTPs for a while now in a Les Paul (great combination right there WB & LP). If I had any nads I would do some soundclips but I am a little intimidated by the quality of playing by the artists on his site!

This weekend I'll snap some pics & stuff.

ps - you should hear Will play. He can rip and he comes up with great riffs & song ideas. Post some clips big fella!!!

Re: WD PU Holy Shit !!!WILL IS THE MAN!!!!

Thanks guys! I really appreciate it. I love what I do and I hope it shows in my pickups.

As for my guitar clips. I'd rather have my customers post theirs. I could post a bunch of me, but as a consumer myself. I'd rather hear the guy paying for the products play than they guy who makes them. Keep's it real in my eyes.

But I am getting ready to record some songs soon for project I am working on. If I ever get out of the shop!

Ducati, first song I am recording is "Gifted". I know you like that one! After playing that Orange Amp today. That's what I am using to record that song with... OOOOOh Baby!

Well There is some one that wants to say something ...

Folks may I introduce BrownEYE's

Folks,
Just got done testing the WB pickups and they were just phenomenal., The string to string clarity and definition was amazing. Very open and woody without any muddiness. Not too thin and not too thick... perfect medium to complement both the lightweight guitars and the heavier guitars.
I have them both and both command different pickups. These certainly are worth checking out. Will is a fantastic guy and am looking forward to the 67-07 Vintage Wire Spec.
Thanks Will,
Browneyes

Re: WD PU Holy Shit !!!WILL IS THE MAN!!!!

Will, I plan on putting in the VTP's Sunday morning. I'm dragging a friend to the Portland guitar show that day, so my ears should be tuned up. I'll be putting those pups through the ringer Sunday night. Still no Ceriatone Express yet, but I think my Soldano-modded Bassman and Clark 1x15 Beaufort will do for now.

Re: WD PU Holy Shit !!!WILL IS THE MAN!!!!

Here it is, I got set #1 of the 67-07 VTP Hots, I'm a simple kind of man so double black is fine with me.

Here's a few pics fresh out the box (which is actually the box the old wire came in with the 1967 labels).

freshly opened

on top of my '65 Princeton, just a bit older than the pickup wire

with all the trimmings

back

front

Now I got to install them in my Les Paul Reborn

Will Boggs Custom Pickups are Truly Custom

That tone in your head, send it to WB, he will deliver, I have tried just about all of them, what I got was tone that was: dark ,brittle, distorted, muddy and all in the name of something or someone cool and or famous.
$$$$$$$ later, found satisfaction, clarity, compresion, pure smokin tone, Les Paul tone you expect when you plug in, roll the volume up and get the EL34's HOT.
This is not an Add or did WB do me any favors, I just know after 35 years of this I would love to help some of you guys out. Just check it out, You really can not go wrong. CUSTOM SHOP, It is!!!!!!!

Re: 67-07's Now Available!

Holy Crap.

I just spent the entire day - like 10 hours - with a set of Will's 67-07 pickups. I tried them in 3 different guitars, and I am absolutely blown away. These things kill. Sweet, articulated tones in all 3 guitars.

First, I put one in the neck slot on my (modded) 1960 Junior, so I could compare it with the early Pat Sticker pup that is normally loaded there, and it was in-frigging-credible... maybe an even warmer tone than the Pat Sticker, and I totally dig that pup. I ran it through my 1958 Fender Deluxe, bridged on 10. I also tried that setup through my Mesa Studio Pre and one of my modded Laney AOR Pro-Lead 50-watters, where it just sang.

Then I loaded the pair into my 1989 Tokai Love Rock, where they just smoked the supposedly "booteek" pickups I had in it. I only ran the Love Rock through the Laney... I was anxious to swap 'em again.

Finally, I loaded the set into one of my beloved Burny Les Paul Black Beauty Customs. Oh. My. God. I am a huge fan of the VH-1 pickups in the early-mid 80's Burnys, but they're un-potted and very difficult to tame. The 67-07's had all the grit, punch and articulation of the VH-1s, but were a little tighter, more focused... and because Will potted my set, I had no squeal. I ran the Burny through everything in my studio, I think. Modded Laney 50 and 100-watters, The '58 Deluxe, my 1972 Fender Twin, Mesa Studio Preamp, Mesa Bottle Rocket... It was smokin' tone through every one of them.

I did some recording, but haven't even listened to it yet. I haven't decided where the 67-07's are going to take up permanent residence yet (I may need to buy another set - not sure I can live with only one), but I have a feeling they're going to see a lot of action -- I can't wait to try them through my live rig -- figures that this is the first weekend I've had off in like 3 months. Argh. Oh well... in 2 weeks Ima let these things loose on the world. Further tone reports to follow.

Thank you Jeff! You laid out the challenge. And I really enjoyed the outcome myself on those pickups. I really wanted to do justice on the Grinder tone for you.

Like them? LIKE THEM?? These things are the friggin' grail. I left them on my workbench overnight and when I walked in this morning, all the other pickups were cowering in fear.

I think the Fralins are done. Initial impressions on Will's pups are very good.
