Re: WB Pickups [merged]

FW's are articulate and handle dirt well. The neck is nice and warm, the bridge has some bite and is fairly hot. It takes overdrive well. They're just great sounding articulate WB pickups!

I got the R8 two summers ago. Right at the same time I got the '69 Deluxe (a month later or so).

Re: WB Pickups [merged]

Hey everyone,

I just want to chime in here how absolutely blown away everything I've got from Will. I've pretty much run the gauntlet (heavens, VT, VTH, Hab's and Firewaters) finding what I think are the best sounding pickups for our guitars and I have to say there isn't a bad set in the batch!

My personal favorites though are the Heavens and the just plain Vintage Tuned's. I've never, EVER heard anything like these before... so damn good. They just do something for me that no other humbucker ever has. Amazing..

^^^^ ^^^^^

I really want to go visit Will again. I'm starting to entertain this idea of playing one of the local watering holes in his area with a Daylighter equipped with WB Firewaters!!

I still owe Will one for helping me dial in that Custom....

Does anyone know where Will is these days? I have tried him on every number, e-mail, P.M., and text with no replies at all.

I've talked to Will recently, although the best way to reach him is through Steve - wbsupport@comcast.net . They are trying to keep will at the winding machine as much as possible

From the sights in Flick's photos just above, it will be quite some time before he gets around to winding pickups looks like.

Re: WB Pickups [merged]

I spoke to Will today--first time in about a month! He said I could post an update, so here ya go:

- Will is still suffering from the after-effects of getting run over. Lots of back pain--looks like he might have ruptured/slipped disks back there. Not good, but he's seeing a specialist and dealing with it.

- Will has spent the last month getting all special orders filled, as well as the remnants of the back orders (here me Bling? ). They ship tomorrow. Will has taken extra care with all of these pickups, and has tested every pickup coming off the bench (which slows down the whole process of course, but it ensures the highest quality). Will remarked that 'the dudes that are getting these are getting some of the best pickups I've ever made...EVER.' (Note: Doublebuckers are 'on hold' until the Patent # comes through. )

- Will will be opening for the first week in December, but only for a week. If you have a Christmas request for pickups, that would be the time. He's taking limited orders, so that they can get out in minimum time...Expect a full opening sometime in January 2010.

Will's got a business plan together, and is getting all of the wickets set for opening. It's taken some time, and a lot of meetings with local business professionals, but I think Will's on the right course for success with this. He's learned just how big a piece of pie he can handle, and he's sticking to that.

He also said to look forward to more exciting news in the coming months. He sounded tired on the phone, but he's been a busy man.

Have a good week guys and gals!

Re: WB Pickups [merged]

Wow that's sad about Will....
I hope he gets over the accident very soon. He deserves better.

I hope everything goes well for the WB family.

BTW, I've been trying some stuff and I can tell you that WBs with bees sound great. Both pieces of equipment have incredible clarity.

BTW, Please join us:

Get better soon Will!!

Re: WB Pickups [merged]

On a side note....

This is being...built...right now by Doug Kauer....

I think even amongst his other Daylighters...this one is gonna be special. Combine that with Will's favorite set of pickups (WB Firewaters) and at a time when he is being quoted as making the best pickups he's ever made in his life....

I'll be the first to admit this: Even though this is a guitar forum that celebrates the Gibson Les Paul, I've never put that much stock into an instrument putting a band over. I really haven't. I still gig with low end guitars just as much as I do high end guitars.

This one...this might be different though. I really think this guitar is going to turn out to be a masterpiece.

Thanks for giving me a heads up on Doug, Will. I hope you get well soon.....
