57 Classics vs. Fralin 8K/9K?
Hi,
I'm thinking about buying a Gibson Les Paul Custom '68 RI VOS, whitch comes with the 57 Classics. I've got a pair of Lindy Fralin Humbuckers 8K/9K lying around. Anybody knows what difference these would make? (Of course I have to test it myself to know what I like, but I'd like to know what you guys think would be the difference betweene these.) |

Re: 57 Classics vs. Fralin 8K/9K?
I thought it would maby be the other way around; that the '57 would be warmer, more blusey, and the Fralins a bit more hot, but I really know nothing about pickups, except that I prefer an edgy sound, so I guess I'll stick with the '57 then.

Re: 57 Classics vs. Fralin 8K/9K?
After some googling, I found this comment:
"These (Fralings) seem to have a little more clarity and note distinction to them than the Gibson '57 Classic." and a test from Vintageguitar says this: "This pickup (Fralin 8.9K) had the most output, most character, and most pleasant compression. It has smooth response and great overdriven tones. Biggest and smoothest, hands down. This was the obvious favorite. Double fat!...” (The '57 Classic was is 8.1K.) Vintage Guitar® magazine : Features : I'm definately gonna test with the Fralins, and maby also try without the pickup-cover to get more highs. |
