Patent Applied For

How many of Gibson's pickups received this sticker? I know for sure the PAF's did, but did they slap em on all the pickups prior to getting the patent? I just picked up a 72 GT Deluxe that had the mini swapped for humbuckers, and the only thing on them is the sticker.

Re: Patent Applied For

They did make mini-PAFs as well.

Early T-Tops had the sticker, but the mini's aren't t-tops, right?

Cool. Any pics?

Re: Patent Applied For

Its actually been routed out and has full size humbuckers in it now. The guy I got it from said it had the humbuckers before he got it and has no idea how long the've been in. I know the 57 Classics have the sticker on them, but these look a bit older, unless theyve been antiqued. I'm gonna get some pics up tomorrow morning and see if anyone can pic out something to get a better estimate of the year.

Re: Patent Applied For

I have never seen minis with the PAF sticker, only the patent number sticker.....unless the early 60s Epiphones had a PAF sticker too, and your are leftovers from then?

Re: Patent Applied For

I snapped a pic of it to see if anyone could tell if it was just a 57 Classic or a PAF. It is a fullsize humbucker. sticker on the bottom and no other numbers anywhere.

Re: Patent Applied For

The bottom of the screws on the screw coil look wrong for a paf. Are there any tooling marks on the feet?. The paf sticker looks quite new and not enough black border wich would put me off thinking it's real. Cover looks like it's been off at some point.

I would have reservations on this been real from what i can see but who knows. Just my observations.

Thats what I'm thinking too. Either way, the price was right on the guitar, and the 57 Classics dont sound bad.
