How to differentiate between chrome and nickel covers

I have several sets of covers, I am trying to determine which are nickel and which are chrome.
Is chrome steel with plating and therefore magenetic -vs- nickel that would not be magnetic? and therefore I can simply use a magent to tell which are which they are brand new and both shiny

The covers a the same material, chrome plated ones are nickel plated first anyway. Side by side, Chrome is bluer than the yellowish nickel. Neither is magnetic.

Find something you know is chrome. You won't be able to tell the difference with the chrome ones, However when you put a nickel cover next to chrome it will stick out like a sore thumb.

chrome looks cheapish to me.... shiny wit a blue hue
nickel looks classy... almost as shiny but goldeny

Nickle will tarnish darker over time. chrome will retain its shine

Re: How to differentiate between chrome and nickel covers

Does anyone think they can identify a Nickel vs Chrome cover from a high res photo? The cover is on a "patent no. 2737842". Trying to determine if it is late or early. Thanks for considering.

Re: How to differentiate between chrome and nickel covers

The problem with a photo is the "croma key"* can be off...
Cameras desigened to take "indoor" photos push the color blue to correct for the yellow hue from incandesant lights...
If the lighting isn't natural or the camera is filtered it's dam hard to tell what the real colour is....

* True white...

Post a pic and lets see?

Chrome looks colder and highly reflective. As other posts, Nickel a bit warmer and a faint yellow tint, and if old, slightly duller. Fnd a kithen utensil, toaster kettle, these will be chrome, as will car bumper or a Harley bike.. Aged chrome 'pits' and looks crap. Nickel dulls and tarnishes, which can look nice.
Top of pic is chrome...
