The MLP Tesla Coil Development Group :ALL WINDERS

While talking with Will Boggs today he mentioned he'd like to do a combined winds with other winders which triggered an idea.
The MLP Tesla Coil Development Group :
a GROUP OF WINDERS collaborating to build a very limited # of pickups using each individuals special skills.

The group would select & vote on the designs ( such as the ohms level
goal). Each coil would be wound by a different winder (each pickup coil)
would be unique) & various parts such as slugs , screws, magnet types
would be picked by those of you with that specific knowledge &
specialty. Each pickup would be somehow marked by each builder & MLP.

The point is that each builder would be involved & part of this
special group.
One set would be set aside for the next MLP giveaway

promotion . The other sets would be sold on ebay for children’s
charity picked by the Group .
I would like to see 10 sets ,
depends on what can be gathered & donated .

So you're asking WTF do I get for this: I propose the joy & experience of working as a elite team !
Have you ever heard of manufacturers combining their knowledge for a common goal , receiving acknowledgment & respect in the music community on such a large scale ?
Also Free links from MLP's front page to each of the participating parties .
The MLP Tesla Coil Development Group Banner ( which each member can post & display with PRIDE & Honour on their site & hung on MLP. Possibly world wide recognition from Magazine such as Vintage guitar, ect

Re: The MLP Tesla Coil Development Group :ALL WINDERS

I'm willing to bet the only information you'll get is what is already commonly known. I think you're going to find that the majority of winders are very protective of their methods and formulas. Especially those who make their own parts or have them made.

Not that I am slagging the idea, it's a good one, but you're batting into the black art of winding.

You have my attention. Perhaps a little more info on the charity of choice ( is this something that we can chose as individuals)- When, where and hows? I'd be in for it if things are in place properly. Idealy, I think it should be in play for the christmas season---Put some smiles on some faces just in time. Nice Idea. This can turn into something remarkably positive/ Blessings come in many shades...

The pickups are not made by one winders but Multi winders each doing one coil per say so a wolfetone coil could be beside one of yours with selected slugs by say so & so with magnets from ... so no 2 pickups would be alike but their parameters would be set to specified set specification by the group or group leaders.

Its going to take A GROUP effort

I didn't know about this. That would be cool. Something would have to be thought up quick for Christmas timeline. I know Will has something cooking for January that is for the American Cancer Society auction maybe it can be this. But this would be great if it can happen.

I will count you out I'm thinking it take a few weeks just to get the message out then for it to be coordinated & the parts gathered & pickups built & put for sale which I would think should be one per week Then money sent to a charity Xmas is about 40 days out. As I said it would be great if we could make Xmas & make it a annual event as well....I had the Idea it is up to the Good souls of the winders with a good heart to pull this off.

Maybe it could turn into a monthly thing one pickup per month all year long this would be left up to the group to decide

Re: The MLP Tesla Coil Development Group :ALL WINDERS

Great Idea. The Only Thing Is See As A Stumbling Block Would Be Parts Matching Up, I Know A Lot Of Us Winders Use Different Parts And My Humbucker Bobbin May Be Just Say 1/8th Taller Or Shorter Than Wolfe Or Motor City Etc.... Hmmm, How Can We Work That Out??

Maybe Choose 1 Standard Of Parts, But Who Kicks In For The Supply To Everyone, Mags Should Be No Problem, Pole Screws, Slugs, Baseplates And Maybe Bobbins Will Be The Issue...

Re: The MLP Tesla Coil Development Group :ALL WINDERS

I think the biggest stumbling block is getting the Winders together to decide on how this should be done ! I know Flick has definate ideas on how this thing should go but I think If the Winders involved talk a little amongst themselves these small problems will melt away !!! Heck it's for charity ! Think of the less fortunate people who would love to have problems as insignificant as coordinating wire and bobbins !! I think all the pickup makers participating in this are doing something quite special !!

Nice idea but I still don't get it.
What's the latest with this idea? I'm all for good kharma and charitable ideas but I'm not convinced about the original concept.
