Re: "Over The Pond Guy" PAFs
Beautiful.
Saw some boxes of rings waiting to be "fettled" about a week back, I see he's got quite a few done now. There's a lot of work goes into those rings you know, a craftsman! Also got a pair waiting by my R9 for when the OTPG PAFs arrive (they are currently maturing in a mysterious garden somewhere in the UK at the moment). I'll post some pics. It's all very exciting even this side of the pond. Shame the PAFs never made it into the Tonequest Report. Maybe not everyone needs to know about them... Liam |

You are so right Liam , There is alot of hand detailing and aging that goes into every set of these rings !!! It takes skill ,time and artisanship to perfectly replicate 50 years worth of aging

That pic looks like someone opened the coffin of a Les Paul and all they found left were the bones.
The colour on them looks really good. just the right amount of grime as well. I wonder if OTPG will eventually end up making the entire guitar. Maybe he would put in the right inlays and other stuff that Gibson miss.

Re: "Over The Pond Guy" PAFs
I've been getting a whole slew of questions reguarding the "Over the Pond Guy " PAF's , I hope this little rant will answer some of the FAQ's !!!
The PAF's made by "Over the Pond Guy " are the most vintage accurate reproductions of real PAF's available anywhere at any price , The gentleman in the UK that makes them has been researching vintage instruments for most of his life and has devoted a good part of his life to studying what makes a great PAF , His philosophy on making a reproduction sound like a real PAF is to replicate every piece of the pickup exactly as it was in those magic 50's years , The bobbins used are made from butrate like they were in the 50's , To my knowledge nobody else uses the correct materials today , OTPG has his own sandcast Alnico 4 magnets made to the exact recipe that was used in his favorite sounding set of real 59 PAF's , The baseplates are identical to those used in PAF's with even the route the wire follows out of the pickup exactly reproduced , The PAF waterslide decals are spot on , Even the paper tape that wraps around the wire is identical to 50's , All metal parts have also been sourced by OTPG and are exact to vintage spec like pole screws & baseplates , The covers are the same nickle silver that Gibson used and are the have that distinctive sharp squared PAF shape , Most sets of OTPG pickups come aged but on request sets can be ordered unaged , All vintage bobbin color combinations are available double black * double white * zebra * , The average readings for his set of PAF's is 7.4-7.5K and 7.9-8.0K but he will do a hotter wind on request , These pickups really do replicate a PAF in every way both looks and sound , Please feel free to Email me for any info I didn't provide here !!! I'm hoping to have a good selection in at all times but the usual lead time on a custom order set is about 4 to 5 weeks , I hope this information has been helpful to anyone curious about "Over the Pond Guy " pickups !!! Thank You..... Other Side of the Pond Clown |

Re: "Over The Pond Guy" PAFs
That dog only has one ear!.. I hope it didn't get blow it off when you exposed it to the OTPG's full volume. I could see a lawsuit coming if that happens to often.
HELLO MOLLY

Re: "Over The Pond Guy" PAFs
Trouble with most of these "youtube" pickup demos is that they are recorded on poor equipment. At the very least it's got to be a decent mic (SM57/8 would do) into a high quality soundcard.
Once you've done that, I still won't be able to hear the demo in much quality as I've got a very basic soundcard at this end. I must say I find the "youtube" demos to be of little help. |

Re: "Over The Pond Guy" PAFs
Right I think recorded sound clips either direct or with a mic are best. I have all the gear to record quality sound clips. I dont have video camera except the one in my dig camera. What kind of camera are you using?

I found OTPG in a quiet little pub. he was a true gent. He was reading a book on an instrument called "The Hammer" or something to that affect, he spoke words of wisdom to me, and told tails of his quest. It was a pleasure to speak with him. ..Well i think i did?.....but i was very very drunk.
