best pickup to go with a seymour duncan 59

Thinking about the jb. I want something thats just as hot as the 59 that i have in the neck posistion. Im playing a les paul studio fadded into a marshall jcm 2000 tsl 122. Mainly i play classic rock, and blues. Looking for something in the bridge growls and has that bite to it.

59B, Pearly Gates, or the Custom/59 Hybrid?

If you're the adventurous type, an unoriented A5 mag sounds fantastic in any of the three...

Seth lover, 59 bridge, alnico II pro, all will fit well for that kind of sound. If you don't need to be an seymour you can go with gibson's 57 classic, dimarzi's 36th anniversary, etc.

Look into the 59/Custom Hybrid, as someone else suggested. I'm intrigued by it.

Cool! Let us know what you think! Love the JB/59 combo, although I have a lot of love for the JB/Jazz combo as well.

Re: best pickup to go with a seymour duncan 59

you will find the JB completely different then a 59.

it has tons of midrange crunch, the 59 is smooth. so if you want both pickups to have the same character get another 59. if you want versatility between pickups, get the JB.

The JB is great as long as your playing does not desire a tight low end.

Definitely the JB.. The 59/JB combo is my favorite for an all around rock guitar. For a more vintage sound, I like the APH-2 set (in N and B).

Good choice on the JB/59. And for times when the JB gets a bit harsh, buy a second LP studio and throw in the APH-2 set (more butter/less bite). Thats a pretty nice selection of tones for a working man.

The APH is lower output than the 59' you don't want that in the bridge with a 59 in the neck.

I would also point out, if the JB seems a little harsh:

Before changing pickups again, try a mag swap first. I personally like an A2 in a JB, but I think an unoriented A5 would also tame any harshness.

Ah, right. I didn't see he had the 59 in the neck and not bridge. The APH is awesome in the neck.

A lotta love for the JB but I gotta go with the Custom 5. I also like the Duncan Distortion. DD bridge and 59 neck is the pairing in one of my Les Pauls.

Re: best pickup to go with a seymour duncan 59

Yet another vote for the JB here. The JB and '59 are like chocolate and peanut butter. Or ...jelly and peanut butter. Especially in a Les Paul.

I would choose those over the JB also. The JB has a great singing lead tone that cuts through and a lot of folks love that but, it can be seen as harsh by some.

Also, the JB has a very loose bottom end that is kind of flubby on the bottom 2 strings. It's more of a melodic lead pickup than anything else.
