Nickel covers.
Open coils look like a car with no hubcaps to me.

If they came off for some reason, OK. But to purposely leave coils exposed to the elements and get full of lint, no thanks.

My opinion, grain of salt not included.

I love nickel covers and zebra coils, no covers can improve high end response and sensetivity.

If you have zebra's reverse zebras, double creams, its a shame and nearly a sin to throw any cover over em

Totally depend on the guitar and finish... this being a Les Paul forum I decided on Nickel... but I do prefer gold on some models... say the Black Beauty for example

i like the look of zebra's and the pickups seem to have more bite when they aren't covered.

Well As for a Tone report, I am wonderin if I may not have messed up my rear pickup tone pot changin em out, Friggin too much solder Gibson folks laid down on it lockin the sheilded cable to it took a whole lot of heat, They sound good but the bridge pickup comes across a bit weaker, and the thing is sposed to read 13+ I like em but strange as it may sound I kinda miss my old ceramic 496R/500T in that guitar

Re: Pickup Cover's ? Naked Pup's ? ...

well, i apologize to all you vintage les paulers, i'm just a humble (and recent) chinese les paul knockoff player here, but i always liked the gold. i was always surprized too, for people who don't care about price, why they didn't get the les paul customs as much as the standards.

the covers are there for shielding, too, right? not just looks?

me, i have the GFS dream 180's, which have both rows of poles exposed (and adjustable), so i don't think i'm loosing any high-end. they can almost do the tele-twang in mine (forgive the comparison).

I respect anyone's tastes, but still surprized more people didn't vote "gold". maybe that's good

i'm ok with exposed humbuckers in strat/shred type guitars, but anything as classy as a les paul just begs for covers.

actually, i might become a "gretsch person" someday. funny, cuz in any other aspect of my life i am really not a bling person, just feel that a musical instrument has to look classy.
