Gibson 57 classic/ or Gibson 57 classic + for the bridge!??
Hey guys, Hopefully Im going to be changing the pickups soon in my (Epiphone 335 dot) with the Gibson classic 57s..Im just not sure if i should put a 57 classic + in the (bridge) or just the normal 57 classic???.. as that's what normally comes in the Gibson 335 dot in both positions)..Ive been thinking about this now for nearly a year, and i still haven't got round to doing it, ha-ha....Ive already had all the electronics done in the guitar.. cts pots, vintage wire, caps ect,..but was just wondering if the 57 classic +/ or the normal 57 classic, would be better suited for the bridge?? .....any information would be much appreciated...cheers!......

57 classic. Didn't like the 57 classic plus in the bridge. Something about the upper mids in the plus was displeasing to my ears.

Yep I agree. But I don't know I think he might be set on the Gibson 57 Classics.

I'm enjoying my Classic + in the bridge of my Epiphone L.P. Tribute Plus.
I think the balance between the Classic in the neck, and the + in the bridge works well. Just my 3.75 cents worth (incl. tax) |

What you REALLY want is a Seth Lover set into that guitar.

Spot on Lootenant, as always.
I have to say that the Tone (and I do not mean a sound, but a Tone, and there's a big difference!) I get with my 57+, and it has been fitted in 2 different Les Pauls, is hard to beat, however the Seth Lovers are IT, no question about it. |

Re: Gibson 57 classic/ or Gibson 57 classic + for the bridge!??
If you go to my bands page you can hear the EP I cut. All I used was the bridge pickup of my SG. All guitars are SG with 57 Classic and 500k pots into (sometimes) a Treble Booster into a 60s Silvertone or a very early JCM 800.
Make sure you jack that guy up a little. Mine needed some help competing with the neck slot due to the low output, but the clarity and teeth made up for it. I've since switched to a 1960 style low 8k bucker with Alnico 5 that has a bit more crunch and tighter bass without sacrificing the raw 60s SG tone I wanted. The 57 was around 7.6k and Alnico II FWIW.

Re: Gibson 57 classic/ or Gibson 57 classic + for the bridge!??
A lot of people love the sound of the Classic 57+ in the bridge position of their Les Pauls. However, the OP isn't talking about a Les Paul. He's talking about a 335, a semi-hollow-body electric guitar. That changes the tonal dynamic of the instrument and therefore, the sound of certain pickups. I'm thinking the regular Classic 57 is the way to go in that instrument.

Nope, stick a Seth Lover in it. SO MUCH more character, tone, articulation. Had them both, the 57 Classic falls on it's face next to the Seth Lover.
