I'm sure it is a decent enough pickup but the demo to me was a little pointless as it sounds like everything else he demos in the fretted americana videos. Phil X and a Tonemaster/evil robot sounds like Phil X and a Tonemaster/evil robot, the pickups involved really didn't have that much impact in the sound in my opinion.

Re: Phil X Signature P90

They sounded muffled in that clip. Sorry I know of Arcane pickups and they are a very good company and a very great winder and these to me just fall short of what I expected.

DC DOES NOT EQUAL OUTPUT. Dc is a resistance value and that is all. It WILL NOT tell you what it will sound like, it WILL NOT make you sound like another player.

Hm, sounds good to me, I like them.
But they are nothing godlike or nothing extra super duper special, they are good IMHO, thats it.

It's the sell. If you wanna sound like PhilX, you gotta use what he uses. First the amp, now pickups, next, PX strings, picks, soon, PX pedals. He is now a brand. He has his own store.

Bridge DC Resistance 12.13k
Neck DC Resistance 7.94k

quite a big difference here, it doesn't sound as big in the clip....

Re: Phil X Signature P90

I'm a P90 guy. I've tried many of the boutique brands out there. I don't know what you guys aren't hearing, they sound pretty damn good to me. They seem to have the clarity of a good P90 with a good punch to them. They remind me of Lollar 50's wound(my favorite), I can't wait to try a set.

Re: Phil X Signature P90

His playing rocked, but the pickups didn't win me over. Love those amps tho. I found the pickups to be a little muddy; when he played chords they weren't particularly articulate.

I love his vids I

It's a TREASURE TROVE of vintage guitar saples & examples; to my knowledge there's nothing out there like those Fretted Americna Vids. Anyone with any interest in vintage guitars should be grateful for them.

I don't find those vids to all sound the same - at all...

I didn't like anything about this vid...

The only boutique i have tried right now are Shed's P´90 and they kick ass!!!.

This ones form PhilX are on the darker side and not too much of a faithful reproduction of a vintage P90 but a take on what PhilX likes and if you like its tone its all good, but this are not close to vintage sounding P90's

More expensive than Wolfetones and Sheptones...? Really? I hardly think they justified the price they command in this video, at least.

Indeed, it seems that Phil X is a ''brand'' now.
I guess a signature Bad Monkey is in order...?

No sweat. AC30 and a Bad Monkey solve the problem!

Re: Phil X Signature P90

i was pretty unimpressed by the sound in the video too. it doesnt give a good representation of his true tone.

here's a better demo of his P90. this is the one in a P94 housing. he was playing through a matchless combo.

yeah his playing is similar but the guitar tones vary quite a bit. it's interesting listening to all the les paul demos and noticing the subtle differences.

Hes not a brand, he just took the two main pieces of his tone, and made what he likes best. So he has some pickups, an amp, and a p90 equipped yamaha sg. The main pedals he uses is a $40 overdrive, the bad monkey, and a boss tu-2 tuner. Hes talked about using another companies strings exclusively so your wrong there. And if he was a brand, all his gear would be affordable to the everyday kid. No, its high quality pieces of gear that he wanted to share with the world. Just listen to him talk about his tone, and how passionate about it he is. He doesn't rely on the sales of his gear to stay afloat. THAT would be a brand. Not Phil X.

I like the neck pickup but i don't like the bridge pup. I like Phil X's tone but as far as going that far to buy his pickup... meh don't really care.

I'm more interested in the Yamaha SG...
