Antiquity JB in light'n bright reissue?
Hello, Gang. First, in full disclosure, I did conduct a search first....
Next, has anyone dropped the ant JB into the bridge position of a lighter and bright Les Paul? If so, how did it sound for heavier blues and classic rock to Steve Stevens or Alice in Chains harder stuff? Did the aging/degaussing of the pickup to make it an Ant take some of the edge off the JB? I'm loving the sound of a regular JB I dropped into a FrankenTele I slapped together, but find it just a tad harsh (nothing the tone control on your guitar cannot tame). However, I thought I would look to this group for some takes from folks that may have dropped one of these into their LPs. Also, I am not asking for how a regular JB sounds ---- I know that and thanks for only comments on the Ant JB. Peace. Mike

I'd like to know too. I love the regular JB in a LP but all of my Les Pauls are pretty heavy.

dunno depends on yr music / taste- but I guess I d stay away. I d rather check a seth lover bridge vintagey -
if duncans. otherwise a WCR goodwood cd be very nice in a bright lester.

Re: Antiquity JB in light'n bright reissue?
I would do it. The Ant JB is warmer. It has the Ant magnet, & softer butyrate bobbins.
So in the same way it was good in a Maple-necked Telegib (brighter than your LP) it will be good in brighter LP's. It is less peaky than a fresh one with fully charged magnet and polycarbonate bobbins, but it is still a JB. For this reason, 250k pots will sweeten it even more. The low mids are there, they just sometimes get overshadowed by the upper midrange peak. I'd also recommend it if you had a Norlin era multi-lam boat anchor. |

Thanks for weighing in, Frank. I'll likely go for it, but I don't know about the 250k pots though....
![]() It will be a while, but I'll try to post clips once I get around to this project. Peace all. Mike

Re: Antiquity JB in light'n bright reissue?
I'd like to contradict on the 250k/500k pot issue...imho the 250ks muffle the lows and mids, but don't really take away the high frequencies.
I ultimately swapped the 250k pots in my (rather bright sounding!) Strat to 500ks because of this very reason. (Of course talking about a TB-4 here!) Last edited by Cpt_Gonzo; 03-29-2012 at 04:05 PM. |

Right on Gonzo! I'm not in favor of 250k pots either. Peace
